Ominous Social Trends Emerging
Because it is Halloween, today was costume day at the day care center where I volunteer and I was stunned, absolutely stunned, at what the current crop of 2, 3, 4 and 5 year olds have been misguided into.
There were no less that 3 cheer leaders and 2 princesses among the 6 4 and 5 year old girls. The other participant was a lady bug. Not an androgynous bug which, by the way the Harvard-Wellesley Bio-Psychlogical Resarch staff is trying to develop as a role model for humans, at least Harvard-Wellesley humans, or even a wymyn bug, but an out and out lady bug.
It took great effort to restrain my disgust at the whole affair.
The boys were no better: we had Spider Man, an alien from outer space and a King who had the gall to sit at the head of the table.
The 2’s and 3’s weren’t any better. I kept looking for little girl lumber jacks or astronauts but they, like their older siblings, are hooked on the male-female jive.
And the worst of it was that everyone seemed to be having a good time.
My only consolation from the whole experience was that tonight all of Harvard and Wellesley will be dressed up with the guys as princesses and cheer-leaders and the girls as lumber-jacks and astronauts. There may even be a couple of androgynous bugs from the research lab.
Isn’t it wonderful that despite the ignorance of the masses we still have the guiding lights of the Ivy League to show us the way?
