Snap, Snap, Snap……….
It is amazing the sound that vinyl records make when they hit a hard surface. Not quite like glass, but more resounding than plastic. It is a delicious sound. Not as loud as the plastic of a CD snapping, but both uniquely satisfying. So as to not leave the reader in the dark, I am referring to the sound of my Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., John Cougar Mellonhead, Green Day, Dave Matthews, Pearl Jam and Jackson Browne records/CD’s. You may wonder why I have engaged in such acts of destruction. I could claim, in good liberal fashion, that it is “performance art”. But it is not performance expressing that latest liberal cause de jour, but rather it is expressing my revulsion of these “progressive” artists. My act of destruction of their work creating a new meaning of hope for the future of the country. Or perhaps it is just the rantings of another “angry white male” who has had way past his fill of this crap. I read yesterday that these “artists” are going to hold concerts during the month of October to campain against President Bush. Cetainly in our somewhat free society (until the Socialist Democrats, Moslems or Chinese take over) these people are free to perform for whomever they please, I am equally free to encourage everyone to destroy their works and boycott the companies that support them.
In my more lucid moments, I wonder what the effect of these concerts might be. I would like to think that people are more sophisticated than to take political advise from alcoholics, guys that shoot heroin in their sac or beat their girlfriend; but I think that I would be disappointed holding that thought.
While it may be simplistic, and perhaps futile, I have made a conscious choice to remove these “artists” from my collection. I am also going to actively find out which corporations are sponsoring these concerts and let them know I am boycotting them and their products. (What was that old Leninist joke, “capitalists would sell you the rope to their own hanging”?) In fact, I have had it with Hollywood Inc. As of this moment, I am no longer going to buy anything Hollywood. No more Disney, no Movie Tickets, no DVD’s, no CD’s, nothing, nada…… Perhaps it matters little, but I can no longer in good conscience support these parasites who hasten the decline of this Great Nation. And I am encouraging you to do the same, and let them know.
