“It’s deconstruction time, it’s deconstruction time…”
And today’s target is the French along with their ridiculous belief that they are the guardians of Western Culture (thank you, CommonSense, for the reminder)
I thought that once too until I went to Italy and started toting up the magnificence of the Italians and things Italian.
Ready?
Julius Caesar, Cicero, Epictetus, Virgil, Marcus Aurielius, St Benedict, Michelangelo, Leonardo What’s-His-Name, Raphael, Fra Angelico, Titian, Giotto, Marco Polo, Donatello, Columbus, Botteccelli, Bernini, Galileo, Dante, St Francis of Assisi, Petrarch, Ferrari, Pope John XXIII, Pirandello, the haute couture of Milan, Verranzano, Enrico Fermi, Verdi, Respighi, Puccini, Modigliani, Giacometti (sic),…..and that’s just the “A” list!
What’s more, they are a hell of a lot nicer than the French.
Three times in Western History the Italian peninsula has erupted in great creative explosions: Ancient Rome, the Italian Rennnaisance and again in the early 20th century and in every field: spirituality, art, sculpture, music, poetry, cars, food, architecture and haute couture.
PS And I’ll give you three guesses who taught the French how to cook in the Rennaissance?
PPS Whoops! I almost left one out. Sophia Loren.
My apologies, signora.
What Is John Kerry?
Notice, I didn’t say, ” Who is John Kerry?” but “What?” because I am trying to figure out what kind of a politician would base his whole campaign on the fact that he was a hero in a war he opposed, was asked to leave after 4 months by the men who served with him instead of serving the usual 12 months, carried a home movie camera with him in order to film his exploits (with several endings),[THAT IS REALLY BIZARRE!], talked about a Christmas in Camodia in 1968 that was supposed to have “seared his soul ” (he then repeated the word “seared”) but which a lot of people who were over there too can’t remember, refuses to have his health and military records released, won THREE Purple Hearts without ever being hopitalized, has 19 years of the most undistinguished Senatorial histories ever, threw away his war-medals, then denied it saying that they were someone else’s then said that they were someone else’s ribbons, then talks about waging “a tough, sensitive war” (!?!?!?!) against the Islamic terrorists and doesn’t even mention his anti-war activities.
But what really galls me are the names Jeremy Glick, Todd Beamer and the other men of Flight 93 who gave their lives on 9/11 (confirmed by the 9/11 Commission) and Pat Tillman, who gave up one American Dream to preserve another,
John Kerry, you disgust me.
Equality…sort of
The AP story this afternoon mentioned the negligence of the American soldiers at Abu Ghraib and senior people at the Pentagon like Donald Rumsfeld and General Sanchez for the scandal.
Curiously there was not a smidgin of a mention of General Barbara Hill in charge of military intelligence and General Janet Karpinski, who was in charge of the Abu Ghraib.
I guess girl generals aren’t accountable like male generals are.
