George W Bush’s Military Record
GWB has been off the screen for the past month as John Kerry has put on a truly impressive demonstration of political ineptness and psychopathology. (Man, I still can’t get over someone re-enacting their battle experiences for home movies and winning THREE Purple Hearts without bleeding. Wow!)
Until a few days ago I had no idea of GWB’s military record except that none of the accusations about it had been shown to be true.
He was not a hero in the Viet-Nam War nor did he claim to be one.
He did become a hero on 9/11. Only Noam Chosky or Susan Sonntag would deny that.
When I did learn about GWB’s record, I was quietly impressed.
He flew F-102 Delta jets in the Air National Guard.
There are easier ways of serving in the Air National Guard than flying jets. You do not become a jet pilot by sitting around one night a week with the guys drinking beer then collecting your ANG pay as you stagger out the door.
It takes determination, courage, decisiveness and intelligence.
Not bad qualities for a President.
As I watched GWB on TV this morning, I started realizing that GWB is a lot more complex than many people, including me, have given him credit for.
Liberals love to think that they have the market cornered in intelligence. (I remember Edwin Newman of NBC condescendingly describe Gerald Ford as “limited”. I wonder how he would describe Carter and Clinton)) If what that means is that they are going to continue to produce Presidents like Carter and Clinton, they should get rid of the corner.
And keep your eye on George W Bush.
