More C-BS Shenanigans and an Iraqi Blogger. Bill at INDC Journal interviewed Richard Schlesinger from CBS regarding the recent story about the threat of re-instating the draft. He also talked with Sandra Genelius, a CBS Spokeswoman, and Linda Karas, the producer of the piece. He brought up some excellent points, not the least of which... »

Voter fraud

Thursday, September 30th, 2004

As we get closer to the election, worries about voter fraud become more significant. There have already been problems in Wisconsin with a Democratic organization, and Michelle Malkin writes an excellent review of the problem here. »

History Want to turn red? Read the Washington Post letters section. (I can’t avoid it. I’ve been getting it free from my apartment building.) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A40140-2004Sep21.html Germany’s Camp, Not Poland’s Wednesday, September 22, 2004; Page A30 With deep sadness and disappointment I once again draw attention to The Post’s use of an unacceptable term, “Poland’s... »

There will be Congressional hearings on the CBS scandal

Thursday, September 30th, 2004

You can read about it here (hat tip Hugh Hewitt). Since CBS was using fraudulent documents to try to influence a Presidential election, I think hearings are justified and overdue. The problem is that the delay allows CBS to destroy evidence that they don’t want Congress to get their hands on. »

“The Attacker”… John Kerry seems to have one mode in his campaign and that is to attack everything and anything in sight. I can understand his attacking Bush but he does it so ineptly. Instead of presenting... »

How important will the debates be?

Thursday, September 30th, 2004

Most voters say not very much. You can read about that here. Now, compare that to articles like this: Showtime for Kerry By THOMAS M. DeFRANKDAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU CHIEF Wednesday, September 29th, 2004 WASHINGTON – After eight months of increasingly scornful long-distance sniping, President Bush and John Kerry finally confront each other tomorrow in a... »

The Death of the Exclamation Point. Friends, I’m sad to let you know that within a week I’ll have to stop putting out The Chapin Nation! (not the MND one) as we reached our memory limit 6 weeks ago. I emailed blogger and they told me that we had used up our alotted space.... »

Michael Moore Is A Big Fat Stupid White Man. I was suprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It’s definitely a polemical work and not anywhere near dispassionate in tone. Some conservatives have looked down on it because of its stridency but I think they’re short-sighted to do so. I think... »

Logos, meet Nomos. Nomos, Logos.

John A Baden suggests, at Tech Central Station, that economists and ecologists should be brought together. I’ve noted before that ecology and economics have many striking features in common. Generally, the phenomena we see in the marketplace has very close analogs in the biosphere, and vice-versa. And for those who are violently opposed... »

Swift Vet FAQs

Wednesday, September 29th, 2004

Here’s a pretty comprehensive FAQ, and even SAQ (Seldom…) for the Swift Boat Veterans’ story. I’d like some evidence that the folks who raise objections to their story show some evidence of having at least read this document. Debunkers, you know who you are. At least address the points that are raised here.... »

Thought for the Day… I find myself wondering whether the past 35 years or so of American history will go down as a parallel experience to the Soviet experience in Russia, the Nazi episode in Germany and the “Cultural Revolution” in China in the 60’s, situations in which the... »

Is outsourcing causing job losses in the US?

Wednesday, September 29th, 2004

Not according to this NYT piece. OP-ED CONTRIBUTOR Where Did All the Jobs Go? NowhereBy DANIEL W. DREZNER Chicago — John Kerry is making the outsourcing of jobs by American companies a centerpiece of his campaign, telling audiences that “because of George Bush’s wrong choices, this country is continuing to ship good jobs overseas.” President Bush’s... »

Many Americans not well informed about either candidate

Wednesday, September 29th, 2004

Unfortunately, this does not surprise me at all. I really encourage people to try to understand where candidates stand on the issues, and that’s one of the reasons for a blog like this. A republic like the United States relies on informed voters, and I continue to urge our citizens to... »

Amnesty International and other trash… The Associated Press has just run a story which describes British hostage, Kenneth Bingley, begging Prime Minister Tony Blair to work to save his life. Economy growing faster than expected

Wednesday, September 29th, 2004

From The Wall Street Journal: “WASHINGTON — The U.S. economy grew more rapidly this spring than an earlier report suggested, as businesses bulked up their stockpiles and the level of imports flowing into the country turned out to be lower than previously estimated. The Commerce Department said Wednesday that gross domestic product increased during the... »

CBS using fake documents in new story

Wednesday, September 29th, 2004

These people just don’t learn their lesson. Or, maybe they just want John Kerry to win so badly they they’re willing to look really bad to do it. Now they’re using bogus e-mails in their attempts to trick voters into thinking a military draft is coming. There’s more here. »
