Your Friend, the Government…………
Had an interesting discussion with some co-workers yesterday at the People’s Republic school where I work. Several female co-workers were complaining that they were feeling the economic squeeze because their kiddies are at university and it was expensive. The consensus among them was that the Government should help them (translation: give them free money). I innocently asked “where does the government get the money from”, which of course let off a shrieking harpy driven unison chorus of “THE RICH”. Innocently, of course, I asked who the rich were. Since all of them had been teaching for over 20 years and were making in excess of 70,000 anually (coupled with the democrat version of the rich - anyone that is actually working) I mentioned to them that they made in excess of most people, even after all the redistributionist government programs were factored in. This of course led to further shrieks.
I politely asked why they thought that they could place a lien on my life, my labor, my freedom and my property by asking the “government” to forcibly take my money at the point of a gun, like some enobled Robin Hood, so that their kids could have “free college”. I asked why some people must be slaves to them so that they could have their goodies. This of course was extremely unsettling, especially as several of them were black, and they of course stated it was not slavery. Mentioning briefly that the mideval serfs only had to forfeit 30% of their crop yield to the manor lord, and that the government at all levels routinely confiscated 51% of my money to give to others, I queried how mideval serfs were slaves but I was not. Perhaps rather than continually asking the government for more extortion money, it would be better if they were allowed to keep the fruits of their labor. That way they could pay for their own kids college, instead of support the five other families and kids attending college.
Perhaps the saddest of all in this encounter, is that 2 of these people were buisness and economics teachers.
