Mahmoud Abbas, pretty much a shoo- in to become the next head of the Palestinian Authority, states that the Palestinians will not make peace with Israel as long as Israel keeps it’s West Bank security fence up. So, until Israel tears down the fence that helps protect her from Palestinian suicide bombers, the Palestinians will refuse to engage in peace negotiations. Maybe on another planet that type of bizarre logic might work, but here on planet Earth that sounds absolutely idiotic. By the way, notice how the BBC repeats the lie that Abbas is a “moderate”, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
Taking his campaign to succeed Yasser Arafat to the foot of Israel’s West Bank barrier, interim
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas says there will be no peace until Israel tears it down.Abbas, demonstrating a new knack for popular politicking after decades as a reticent deputy to Arafat, drew cheers from thousands
at stops in two cities hemmed in by Israel’s barrier in his pursuit of election on January 9 as Palestinian president.“No (Middle East) peace can transpire with (Jewish) settlements and the wall,” Abbas said on Wednesday with his back to the
towering concrete divide that virtually encircles the town of Qalqilya near the West Bank’s boundary with Israel.“We tell our neighbours: ‘No matter how many settlements, walls or obstacles you build, it will not bring you security or peace,” said
the veteran moderate who wants talks on Palestinian statehood on Israeli-occupied land after years of fighting.
