Beat Dead Dads.
Bernard recently posted a bit by Edward Grey deriding Mike Seate’s article Deadbeat Dads Work to Avoid Manhood. In it he states that, “At this point, I’m likely to suffer a heart seizure if I ever meet a local man who gleefully announces that not only does he pay child support, he’s two, maybe three months ahead on his payments.†Here is my letter to Mr. Seate:
Dear Mr. Seate,
Prepare to have a seizure; I pay my support and alimony on time, as do most men. I find your article insulting and demoralizing. I get no thanks from ANYONE for being up to date in my support, and my ex and child live in better living conditions than I. I drive a 91 Jeep Wrangler. My ex and her husband just purchased a new Audi Quatro and own a gigantic SUV. They live in a nicer home, in a nicer neighborhood. My daughter attends public school (free) and I still pay because I love her. You, sir, need to do more research on this topic and realize that child support and alimony are based on an admittedly flawed math calculation that nobody wants to correct. The money is not monitored so I feel I’m paying for their new Audi. I know how much it costs to raise kids.
Also, putting dads in jail is no way to get money! It’s called debtor’s prison, even if they had the wherewithal to pay the inflated costs for children that are often not even their own. Get a clueâ€â€Âthe system is stacked against men and anecdotal drivel such as the article you foisted is a step backwards. No data, no sited study… nothing but talking to losers. Why don’t you look into all the work currently being done to support shared custody laws? Or just stop writing about thing you haven’t got a clue about?
