In memoriam of the January surprise, that the draft would be reinstated, which perished on February 1st, 2005. This memoriam is dedicated to Democrat Chuck Rangel, the lawmaker who introduced legislation to reinstate the draft that was promptly put down by his fellow lawmakers. This montage of quotes serves as a reminder of those who warned the draft was eminent under George Bush II

Sen. Kerry (D): With George Bush, the plan for Iraq is more of the same and the great potential of a draft. (Via cBS)

Sen. Harkin (D): The deteriorating facts on the ground in Iraq, plus the Bush doctrine of acting pre-emptively and unilaterally against hostile regimes, will soon leave him no choice. If President Bush is re-elected, he will have to restart the draft. (Via Information Clearinghouse)

Howard Dean (D): President Bush will be forced to decide whether we can continue the current course in Iraq, which will clearly require the reinstatement of the draft. (Via Democracy for America)

Terry McAuliffe (D): I know it’s controversial to say it, but don’t think for one second that if George Bush gets re-elected and we have another conflict in some other theater of the world, we’re going to have to reinstitute the draft. (Via CNS News)

Max Cleland (D): America will reinstate the military draft (via MSNBC)

Dennis Kucinich (D): Listen up, young America you could be facing a Compulsory Draft! (via His own website which is now gone)

Websites such as Bush Draft are long gone, and today we’re talking about reducing troop levels this year and how soon we can get out.
