RUTGERS UNIVERSITY WELCOMES COP KILLER TO LECTURE STUDENTS
Criminal Justice Professor Invites Murderer and Torturer As Panelist
by Jim Kouri, CPP

Just when you think you’ve heard it all when it comes American university professors’ outrageous antics, there’s always another ivory-tower dweller who comes along and shocks the sensibilities of clear-thinking people.

The New Jersey law enforcement community is fuming and has launched an all-out email and media campaign against a criminal justice professor at Rutgers University for a stunt she pulled in January at New Jersey’s state university.Professor Drew Humphries held a seminar on Saturday, January 22nd on the campus of the Rutgers Law School at Camden. The event was entitled “How to Survive on Parole and Probation” and was cloaked as a panel-styled forum to help those on parole and probation adjust to re-entering society. Then came the shocker:

To speak on the experience of parole, the professor invited convicted cop killer Thomas Trantino. Trantino brutally murdered two Lodi, New Jersey police officers in 1963. Their names were Peter Voto and Gary Tedesco. He didn’t just murder them. He and his partner first disarmed the two officers and then had them strip down to their underwear. The two lawmen were then then taunted and pistol-whipped presumably for some sick thrill. However, torturing the officers was not enough for these two sadistic animals. After toying with their victims, these monsters murdered the two unarmed policemen who both left behind families and a massive wake of anguish. They were both shot, execution style, in the head.Initially sentenced to death,

Trantino’s life was spared when the United States Supreme Court overturned the death penalty in 1972. He was paroled in 2001 in spite of police officers from all across the country protesting his release, as well as magazine articles appearing in Police Times, The Chief of Police Magazine and other publications urging political leaders in New Jersey to deny Trantino freedom.Professor Humphries teaches several courses at Rutgers University, including “Police and Policing.” In just the first few days following the appearance of Trantino at her seminar, more than 500 emails were sent by law officers, educators, citizens, alumni and other college professors.Rutgers University seems to have done everything possible to distance themselves from this event, but the bottom line is they knew what the Humphries seminar was going to be about and they allowed it anyway.

An apology was demanded, but thus far none has been given.

Humphries didn’t take on the police. She took on two families. She took on a woman who lost her husband, children that lost their dad, and friends and colleagues of two good men that were left devastated by a monster. She took on a victim’s brother and fellow officer, Andrew Voto, who later came upon the scene and saw his brother, dead, at the hands of her cop-killer friend whom she refers to as “Tommy.”
