Over on the Znet blog, there hasn’t been much action lately, just a rant about the evil American empire every day or two. Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, the London Financial Times reported that 50 dead Iraqi Shias washed up on the shores of the Tigris river south of Baghdad. The area is a Sunni strong hold. Northwest of Baghdad, 19 dead Iraqi soldiers who had been kidnapped where found.
I can only presume that Znet and the rest of the Anti-war “intellectuals” think removing the Sunni supported Saddam Hussein, who probably would have ordered the death of those Shia himself was a bad thing.
On March 20, the day after the two year anniversary of the begining of Gulf WarII, the Chicago Tribune reported that 2,000 Iraqis marched in Baghadad’s street protesting the killing of 125 Iraqi’s by goons of a Jordian supporter of Saddam Hussein. I don’t recall on March 19 at the anti-war protests any of the Progressives protesting the continued violence by Saddam Hussein supporters. Nor do I remember anyone protesting the Jordanian influence in Iraq.
I suppose the the anti-war intellectuals think that these power plays in the region between the House of Saud, the Heshimite Kingdom, the two Hussein families, and the Persians would simply go away if it weren’t for the evil American empire.
Or, I suppose the evil U.S. empire should simply allow the previously mentioned tyrants to try and expand their empires?
