Stupidity in the Texas House
It’s popular nowadays to criticize the judiciary for being “activist.” Whatever that means. Those who criticize forget that it is the legislature that actually makes the laws, the judiciary simply decides if the application of those laws are just. The laws are often vague and unenforceable like this doozie from Texas: the state House on Tuesday approved a bill to restrict “overtly sexually suggestive” cheerleading to more ladylike performances.
The absurdity of the bill is beyond reproach. It is subjective, unenforceable, and an insult to the function of legislatures. To add insult to injury, it cost Texas taxpayers over $30,000 to simply introduce the bill, and if it passes the Senate, will cost over $126,000. I can only presume that this bill is a result of voters no longer participating in a reprsentative democracy. Otherwise, the legislator who introduced the bill, from fear of losing his job, would never had wasted the people’s time and money.
