ABC Gets It Right.
Last Friday I received a late e-mail from ACFC about Dr. Warren Farrell appearing as a featured speaker on 20/20 that evening. If you missed it you missed a good one. Very surprising was that this was aired on ABC, and I may start watching more often.
The host, whose name I can’t remember but he has a mustache, came out from the start debunking the myth of the wage gap. One of the most powerful scenes was when Farrell was lecturing to an evenly split men/women audience. He posed questions like, “Have you ever worked in a job that required you to work out doors in the elements?” and “have you worked continuously for the passed 20 year?” and some others. Invariably the ones standing were predominantly men. Here was the only part of the piece I found lacking. It could have been stressed that more men die (in the 90%+ range) in work related accidents etc. than women. That figure alone should make one think.
What was particularly interesting was that Farrell spent his early years as a women’s rights activist, spewing the same bunk he now so adamantly decries. He decided to start a company with just “underpaid” women and make huge profits, but he soon found out there was something wrong with the theory. He decided to investigate the data that apparently supported the wage gap myth and the results are in some of his books like, Why Men Earn More, The Myth of Male Power,, and Women Can’t Hear What Men Don’t Say.
Kudos to ABC for soundly refuting the wage gap myth.

Pete,
The host I think you are referring to is John Stossel. He has been on 20/20 for years doing conservative pieces. He started as a consumer reporter and then began to question the ‘business is bad’ paradigm which lead to his conversion. He wrote a book about this called Give Me A Break, which is his signature line.
