In what only can be described as utter stupidity, San Bernardino Unified School District is going to teach low achieving black students in Ebonics. Sociologist Mary Texiera, stated that “research has shown that students learn better when they fully comprehend the language they are being taught in”. That research she sites is sketchy at best and is not universally accepted in peer review, it was based on studies of Hispanic students, not Ebonics. It clearly does not apply.
It may never occur to our sociologist friends, but in America we speak English. It may also never occur to our sociologist and educrat friends that the reason these black students do so poorly and are “low achieving” is that they cannot reason to high levels because to do so requires precise thinking using language and being able to conceptually reason from already known concepts. That cannot be done when you cannot use proper verb tenses or say “y’know wha’ I’m sayin’” after every sentence.
These San Berardino educrats and sociologists are condemning these kids to continual unemployment and under achievement by making them unable to reason and speak and communicate in ways that makes them employable. Somehow I cannot imagine IBM or Microsoft allowing you to turn in your quarterly reports in Ebonics.
