No, Native Hawaiians do not deserve “special privileges” and “a measure of self-government” anymore than homosexuals or Muslim Americans do. One country, one law.
No, teachers in Dallas County, Texas should not have to learn Spanish. For one thing Dallas ranks 138th (!) in Spanish speaking people but more importantly this country is an English speaking country.
Maureen Dowd’s statement that “the moral authority of parents who have lost children in the Iraq War is absolute” is one of the silliest statements I have ever heard but just to make it clear, does that include schizophrenic parents, parents who like Cindy Sheehan know nothing about the Middle East or foreign affairs or parents who have lost children and approve the war?
Mme Dowd’s statement is not only silly but absolutely wrong.
Good Grief!

The issue with Hawaii is one of Federalism, where Hawaii (even the Governor is on board) wants some sort of gov’t branch to be run by Hawaiians… even if they’re only 1/100000th Hawaiian.

It’s like they never heard of the Constitution, that, or they think they can get away with ignoring it completely since hey, WE stole their land and all. Make it one big Reservation like the Indians, er, Native Americans. Give ‘em casinos for Christsake, that’ll shut them up.

One question: Would we still have 50 states?
