Ah, the Boomers! I remember their credo of 40 years ago, “Better burn out than rust”. However when Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and John Bonham actually started doing it, and the Boomers started turning 30 (the”End of the World”!)somehow it lost its charm no matter how flambuoyantly it was done.
And now one can see them at early hours in the gyms of America with a passion that is almost frightening, riding their stationary bikes as though someone were chasing them (who?), “The Wall Street Journal” under one arm,
“Money” magazine in their mouths, underlining relevant sentences on 401-K’s in “Forbes” magazine, their lunch bags stuffed with thrice purified alfalfa and super-purified water as they fight tooth and nail to rust as long as possible.
Ah, human nature!
