The Return of the Nit-Wits

As I was watching that titanic 50-38 defensive struggle between UCLA and Northwestern yesterday, I realized that the stupid anti-male TV ads are alive and well.
Of course there’s the cell-phone ad of the old white guy “sticking it to himself” but there is a new genre of black, asian and now Indian men having to instruct dumb white men in the complexities of the modern world.
But the real whopperoonies are the NCAA promos that show women singing the praises of participating in sports. The was one about a female medical student recalling her days as a college basketball player and how they would always be with her (sigh).
But “The Goofiest Promo of the Year” has to go to the one in which a young black woman says that hammer-throwing isn’t as simple as it seems. Why she has to study medical engineering just to relax!
I would LOL but it is this kind of nonsense that has caused so much damage to men over the past 38 years.
Finally there was a Progressive Insurance in which a wife berates her football jersey wearing husband who is watching a game on TV for not being more thorough in exploring the car insurance options.
The guy winds up crying.
That did it.
I called a William Kelly at Progresive to complain. He listened silently. I asked if he would pass this along to some one. He said that “calls of this sort” went to the “creative department”.
When I went back to watching the game I realized that I owed Bill an apology. It was not Progressive’s fault nor the “creative department” at Progressive. They were only doing their job.
These commercials would not be viable if men asserted thir rights and responsibilities in the home. The basis of this commercial and all others like it is that women make the major financial decisions in homes. So that is the target demographic. It’s as simple as that.
And men let them.
Fine.
If men want to roll-over about being men and do nothing, that’s their choice.
I don’t.
