Yesterday I went down to the day-care center where I volunteer. The kids were practicing the “Black History” program for next Thursday.
We have a pretty good mix of kids, white, black, Latino and Indian.
It struck me that there were no pictures of Washington and Lincoln up and, as far as I knew, no plans to have them mentioned in the program.
I mentioned this to the assistant pastor (the center is in a church). She gave me a rather aggressively delivered message that they were focussing on “Black History” Month.
I replied that it was just as prejudiced against white children to deny them knowledge of their heritage as it was to deny black children (or native American, Latino or any other) a knowledge of theirs.
“That will be well-noted,” she said, smiling, but not meaning it.
We have reached the stage where more people know about Dr Martin King, Jr, whom I greatly admire, than about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
That is wrong.
The white guilt trip needs to come to a close.
It is not bigotry to say that blacks have lowered their own literacy but also society’s in general. Hip-hop and gangsa rap are not “telling it like it is” but exploiting teen-agers with no parental guidance.
And a 65% illegitimate birth-rate is one of the best ways to perpetuate ghetoes, poverty and misery.
It’s time for white people to demand that their part in American history, which happens to be the central part, be recognized.
Napoleon did, as did Ho Chi Minh.
Why can’t we?

I stand up to be counted as a white heterosexual man (who goes to church) who has no white guilt, male guilt, or Christian guilt.
