A Curiousity Piece

The first skater in tonight’s edition of the Winter Olympics was a young woman from Turkey whose family had moved to Canada so she could skate. (There are 2 skating rinks in Turkey).
There were 2 curious things about her performance which was not bad but not as good as that of the 16 year old American girl who followed her.
One was the almost complete lack of comment by Dick Button & Co.about her skating.
The second was even more curious: her score was not mentioned.
She was not even mentioned after she skated.
Now that is strange and one has to ask why this happened.
I don’t know; I can only speculate.
Was it the fact that she was from from an Islamic country albeit a secular one? Have we reached the stage where the sensibilities of Islam now determines what we can say, for example, the cartoon incident?
NBC needs to come forward and say why this happened.
If Islam has become a psychotic force in the world then it has to be faced now and dealt with now.
No if’s, and’s or but’s.

I would probably blame it on crappy editing. During the summer Olympics opening, the editors were clipping out various countries walking out on stage to make room for commercials. Of course, this wasn’t necessary since there was plenty of other chatter they could edit out to make room. In this year’s winter Olympics, the announcers were careful to emphasize that they were leaving the coverage complete so all the countries could make an appearance.

(Especially interesting was Israel appearing just after Iran.)

[...] John Hawkins hits the nail right on the head on his recent post regarding the immigration bill that was passed by a Senate panel today. So, what do we have here? No real wall, a bunch of security measures that will probably never actually be fully implemented (just like last time), illegal aliens who don’t respect our laws being given US citizenship, and a guest worker program.
