Noncustodial Parent Notification Of Police Activity In Custodial Home

I couldn’t help thinking, “What a great idea. This is long overdo,” when I heard Andrea Brucia speaking on Anderson Cooper’s 360 television show about a law she’s hoping to get passed with the help of Assemblyman David McDonough. Brucia is the paternal grandmother of Carlie Brucia, the 11-year-old Sarasota, Florida girl who was abducted and murdered February 1, 2004. [video] Joseph Smith was sentenced to death today for the crime.

COOPER: You’re hoping to change laws. You’re hoping that — because, in your case, you were not aware, nor — and — and your — your son was not aware of — of the difficulties that Carlie’s mom was having with the law.

A. BRUCIA: Exactly, Anderson.

When — after Carlie was murdered, a lot of facts started coming out about what was going on in Carlie’s home. There were drug arrests. There were police calls to her house on several occasions. And we were unaware of it.

And Joe, of course, being her dad, should have been advised of this by someone. I’ve been working with our assemblyman, David McDonough (ph) on a law that would make sure that the non-custodial parent is notified of any police activity on the custodial parent’s part.

I’m very sorry that this tragedy has happened to this family. Yet I am grateful that they might help millions of children by exposing this, one of many issues that noncustodial parents face. Please send your letters of support to Assemblyman McDonough HERE.

    The Gonzman Says:

Amen, Teri. Unfortunately that’s what happens when our divorce industry treats an NCP as a *vistor* in their child’s life instead of an equal parent.

It’s my child. Whatever goes on in the CP’s house, where my child is, *IS* my business. If I’m enough of a parent to write a check, I’m enough of a parent to have a say.
