To show, or not to show?

A hot topic this morning deals with video, purporting to show Iraqi insurgents dragging the burning body of a US soldier out of a helicopter. The question is, should news outlets show the video?

Personally, I’d be a lot less upset over the showing of such footage if the insurgents’ actions were described using terms like “defilement”, “desecration”, “savagery”, “barbarism”, and the like.

But news agencies which are perfectly happy to repeat those terms when a Koran is alleged to have been flushed down a toilet can’t seem to find those sections of their thesauruses when writing about what the insurgents do.
