When we talk about civil rights in this country, we’re generally talking about civil rights for citizens, not for unlawful intruders who have no respect for our sovereignty and who abandon their own countries rather than try to improve them. Comparing the situation of illegal aliens to, say, the oppression of black people during segregation and calling it the civil rights movement of the 21st century won’t wash with most Americans.
By the way, here’s an interesting factoid that’s not getting a lot of media coverage: U.S.-born Latinos have a far less favorable view of illegal immigrants than foreign-born Latinos. That must be frustrating for the open borders crowd because there’s one group that can’t be accused of racist xenophobia. But you can bet your bottom dollar/dinero that everyone else who opposes open borders will get the racist designation. It’s just too easy and oh so effective.
Meanwhile, in the People’s Republic of Montgomery County, Md., students can earn required community service credit by attending one of the local Washington area protests. Well, that’s gotta be more exciting for the children than sitting in stifling classrooms listening to their teachers drone on about math, science, English and history. Let ‘em get out in the real world and do some valuable “community service.” Viva la immigracion ilegal! And, hey kids, don’t forget the Che Guevara t-shirts.
