It's too easy to imagine a time when private citizens will be needed to help law enforcement stop a sudden break down of society due to another terrorist event such as 9/11. During a time of national calamity the border would be a magnet for thousands more of the criminal element that now crosses with impunity. We here in Arizona and else where must elect people with a better understanding of why the forefathers of our nation included the second amendment in our Bill Of Rights. Until then we will not be fully able to plan the protection of ourselves, families and neighborhoods. Sadly, we will just be more defenseless victims-in-waiting. Having lawfull citizens trained in the use of and in possession(concealed carry) of firearms is the most cost effective moral way to control criminals.The NRA advocates the correct balance between individual freedom and protection of society. Take as long as you policemen want. As much red tape as you want to inflict. Sentence count does not stop until all the weapons are returned, even if the owners are out of state. One day in jail for each day each weapon is not returned to the people the police took them from could add up to a life sentence( I would expect the police have already run the serial numbers and taken actions against stolen weapons holders) Contempt of Court is not dependant on specific laws against behavior.
