Monday’s Column: English-only Anthem Gets the Gov’t a Little Bit Pregnant Again

Monday, May 8, 2006
By Doug Powers

Today’s column at WorldNetDaily has to do with the potential push via Congressional legislation to make it illegal to sing the national anthem in any language other than English.

Several questions immediately come to mind. Is this a violation of First Amendment rights? What if somebody proposed that Miranda rights should only be read in English? That certainly wouldn’t fly on a Fifth Amendment basis, would it? Why not tackle the much bigger problem of illegal immigration first, rather than focus on their lyrical proclivities?

I try to answer some of this in “English-only anthem“.

Have a great Monday!
