Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who has lambasted GOP lawmakers for taking gifts from lobbyists, has been found to have engaged in exactly the same behavior himself.

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, who has criticized Republican ethics, accepted free ringside tickets to three professional boxing matches from Nevada officials who were trying to influence his federal legislation regulating the sport. Reid, D-Nev., took the free seats for Las Vegas fights between 2003 and 2005 from the Nevada Athletic Commission as he pressed legislation to increase federal oversight of boxing, including the creation of a government commission.

Reid of course defended his actions . In fact, he actually had the temerity to claim that it was good for his constituents in Nevada for him to take these gifts.

Reid defended the gifts, saying they would never influence his position on the boxing bill and that he was simply trying to learn how his legislation might affect an important home state industry. “Anyone from Nevada would say I’m glad he is there taking care of the state’s No. 1 businesses,” he told The Associated Press.

Of course, everyone in Congress who did the same thing could make the same idiotic claim that Reid is making. What a hypocritical gasbag. And, it’s clearly not the first time that Reid has been caught talking out of both sides of his mouth on this subject.

I know you don’t have your hopes up again. Our lazy wimp republicans won’t do a damn thing. Except maybe have Hastert jump up and support Reid’s constitutional right to free boxing tickets.
