Bush ‘Cleans House’—Except for Mess In Oval Office
Wrong Number?
Like most multiple- term presidents, George Bush is suffering a second-term slump as it were.
A major let down from the heady days of 2001-2004, when the president pretty much got exactly what he wanted, when he wanted.
Remember the 2002 elections? History says the party holding the White House always loses seats in one or both chambers during mid-term elections. Democrats seemed in a good position to get back into the game.
But GW Bush went on a campaigning rampage on behalf of his Republican colleagues. He defied all odds by actually GAINING seats in both the House and Senate.
Obviously, the American people were still reeling from 9/11, and we trusted Bush to defend We the People from Islamic fanatics. Give him the congress he needs to win the war on terror, we reasoned, and that is exactly what we did.
My, how things have changed. Whereas Bush was nearly invincible in 2002, now he is mostly invisible.
Used to be that RINOs were the only ones bold enough to buck Bush. Now he has trouble getting the White House lawn mowed without a good word from Vicenete Fox whispered into the ear of one of the illegal aliens on the White House gardening crew.
Wisely, the president has finally taken the bull by the horns and is restructuring his staff to meet the challenges that lie ahead. Andrew Card was the first to go. Then, Scott McClellan out! Karl Rove, just about out! John Snow out!
Dick Cheney would have been forced out as well, except the VP let it be known he could not be discarded like a worn-out stent.
He made his point by shooting his attorney on a quail hunt in Texas.
Clearly, that was no accident. Rather it was meant to impress Bush with the fact that his VP was armed and potentially dangerous. Bad ticker and all, Cheney showed he was willing to engage in an old-fashioned duel, if necessary, to keep his office and parking space at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
So what next? Most of the rot at the upper and mid-level positions have been exterminated, and new blood has been brought in, or is on the way.
Still, Bush’s aggressive house cleaning seems to have overlooked the most important room in the White House: The Oval Office.
Brutal truth be known, Bush IS the problem. Things are unlikely to get much better until he quits the Oval Office for BBQ, tree-stump removal and illegal aliens in Crawford.
But who, pray tell, in the White House is brave and/or foolish enough to look GW in the eye and tell him its time for HIM to go?
