Did W Visit Iraq To Hog Credit for the Zarqawi Kill?
So President Bush took out time from his campaign to turn America into Mexico-North long enough to visit Baghdad. This surprise visit was intended to personally thank our brave troops for killing Zarqawi, and to boost troop morale.
One wonders why W waited until after after Zarqawi had been destroyed before making his move?
Seems to me this visit would have been far more effective if W had dusted off his pilot’s helmet(remember that Mission Accomplished footage?) and personally helped our men and women take out the brutal terrorist.
W could even have embedded Helen Thomas in his fighter jet, so the world could get a true and factual account of the Zarqawi kill.
From the perspective of a terrorist. A very old, sick terrorist.
And if old Helen was accidentally ejected from her air seat into downtown Baghdad during the attack, chalk it up to the risky business of investigative, ‘hands-on’ journalism.
But back to the story. The air strike has dumped two 500-pound bombs on the safehouse and Bush et al are told that Zarqawi was hit. Hit hard
With cameras from CBS/ABC/NBC and the cables recording his every word and move, Bush carefully lands the fighter jet and marches over to the bloody stretcher where the nearly-dead Zarqawi is barely clinging to this earthly existence.
W salutes the dying terrorist smartly, and proudly shouts Great job Abu!, in a moment reminiscent of when W congratulated Brownie after Michael Brown personally destroyed New Orleans last fall.
Of course, a top presidential aid would quickly dash over and remind W that Zarqawi was the INTENDED TARGET….the evil doer, as it were.
With cameras still rolling, our commander- in- chief rolls his eyes heaven-ward and strides away from Zarqawi in order to talk with top military brass at the scene.
After consulting with the best military minds in the world, W tucks his helmet under his arm, and aggressively struts back to the bloody stretcher.
W makes eye contact with the bewildered Zarqawi and mockingly barks, Bring Them On! in his best Texan.  He then flashes the V sign for the cameras, and smiles a winner’s smile from ear-to-ear.
W is then informed by the attending physician that Zarqawi died five minutes ago, while the president was discussing strategery with the military.
So the president of the United Stated has just mocked a Muslim corpse by screaming ‘Bring Them On’Â at the dead body with every major television network in the world recording his ill-begotten words and steps.
Only then does W make a firm, presidential-type decision:
He orders all cameras and audio recording devices and their contents confiscated and destroyed. Immediately!

You lost me guy, this trip had been planned for more than a month. The tripping point was the appointment of the final two members of Al Maliki’s cabinet. Zarqawi’s death was just serendipitous.
The primary reason for the trip was to lend additional legitimacy to the Al Maliki government and to reassure him that America was there for the duration, not for self-aggrandizement. Bush doesn’t worry about the polls.
This trip was a major coup for the Prime Minister and it didn’t hurt the President.

will—-it was an attempt at satire. Not serious.

I kind of wondered, but I failed to appreciate it fully.
DUH! Even I can be obtuse at times.

Will–Bush is a VERY emotional figure. I am a very conservative conservative who struggles with Bush on immigration, spending etc.
I am always amazed at the reaction I get when i post about Bush. His haters are so intense…
