From ACLU website: “Landmark Settlement Reached in Notorious School Drug Raid Caught on Tape (7/11/2006)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: media@aclu.org Victims of South Carolina Raid Become Only Students in America with Complete Freedom From Unconstitutional Search and Seizure
GOOSE CREEK, SC — The American Civil Liberties Union announced today that a federal court has approved a landmark settlement in its lawsuit challenging police tactics in the high-profile drug raid of Stratford High School in Goose Creek, South Carolina. The settlement includes a consent decree that sets a new standard for students’ rights to be free from unreasonable search and seizure.
Absent a warrant, police will now need either to have probable cause and pressing circumstances or voluntary consent in order to conduct law enforcement activity on school grounds – effectively granting Goose Creek students the essential privacy rights enjoyed by all Americans.
“Goose Creek students now have a unique place in our nation,†said Graham Boyd, Director of the ACLU’s Drug Law Reform Project. “They are the only students in the nation who have complete protection of their Fourth Amendment rights of search and seizure.â€
From AP story: “Judge Halts Bible Giveaway at Mo. School By JEFF DOUGLAS Associated Press Writer September 7, 2006, 7:56 PM EDT ST. LOUIS
Acting on behalf of two sets of parents from the district, the American Civil Liberties Union sued in February in federal court in St. Louis.
“The defendants were repeatedly told that their actions violated the Constitution, but they chose not to heed those cautions,” Perry wrote in the preliminary injunction issued Wednesday.
A final ruling is not expected for months.
Eastern Missouri ACLU legal director Anthony Rothert said the injunction was “a victory for parents who want to direct the religious upbringing of their children without interference from public schools.”
MY COMMENTS:
These gates of hell ACLU drug-sex-rock-and-roll hippies are imposing a constitutional right for your kids to have street drugs in the public schools and imposing a constitutional right to not have a bible (Imagine there’s no heaven) in the public schools. But the parents blame themselves when 85% of the Christian’s kids lose their religion by time they graduate from high school.
The hippies that took over the public schools are cowards (nothing to kill or die for), that is the reason why the strategy of these atheists is to make the changes to the public schools slowly, so that the rednecks like me don’t start shooting them.
Traditional parents are forced into the horrible choice of deciding if you want your child to be successful in an atheistic system. The further your child progresses in this education system, the less they will accept your patriotic and traditional beliefs.
When the hippies impose their skeptical alternatives to patriotic America and traditional religions it’s a new “religion.†They must be totally defeated.
We must end the government owned and controlled mandatory atheist education. When your atheist public schools strip the students of their patriotism and traditional religions the successful ones replace it with their school mascots, the losers replace it by forming street gangs. Instead of kids being willing to fight to the death to defend their God and country, they fight to the death to defend a street gang, of which you never heard.
oops, should have been Mr. Anti-Christian judge….
Al
OK Mr. anti-chrostian judge asshole, what is your legal take on the “proper way to promote Christianity”? YEa, I thought so….
Mike, a true statement on the surface. The problem is that they COULD do so. Whereas it is wrong for Christians to do. If the Koran was distributed, it would be under the guise of “diversity” and “Tolerance”. Deny it.
Al
I’m not trying to stir the pot, but if you substitute the word “Bible” with “Koran”, and the word “Christianity” with “Islam”, I suspect most of us would be applauding this decision. The point is: public schools should not be in the business of promoting or endorsing religion of any kind. (Leave that to Gideon.)
Again, I say its time to get the Judiciary under control. The bull about have a completely independant Judiciary is nonsense. Many states have their judges put under the voters scrutiny every four years. Admittedly, not much is done, but the potential is there. We should be able to throw out morons like those on the 9th circut.
assinine – considering this is country founded and built by Christians and based on Christian values.
what would the founding fathers think?
they’d think this ruling was stupid.
