Two Soccer Moms, A Minivan And Plenty Of Weed

There is nothing more all-American than a pair of soccer moms, sitting in a van, waiting for practice to end.

This idyllic scene speaks of the great love that Americans have for the physical and spiritual development of their children. In other cultures kids are kicked out of the house and left to their own devices. We make sure that our precious ones exercise and learn the concept of teamwork in a structured environment.

This heartwarming vignette also testifies to the material wealth of our great country, only a gas-guzzling minivan or an SUV is good enough for our dear mothers.

Such an idyllic everyday occurrence recently made the news — why you ask? Because the soccer moms, Deborah Spangle, 40, and Jessica Riddell, 39, were smoking pot while waiting for soccer practice to end. They were arrested on misdemeanor charges and levied a small fine.

Watching a soccer game is like watching grass grow, I can only imagine how boring soccer practice must be. I can understand why the ladies were smoking weed to alleviate the boredom. I’m not advocating breaking the law, but if marijuana is ever legalized I will roll me the fattest blunt.

I would argue that soccer moms, relaxing in a minivan, watching soccer practice AND smoking weed, is an all-American tableau. You can smoke marijuana on a regular basis and still be a soccer mom, career woman and productive human being.

Smoking weed per se is not wrong, but these women were definitely wrong for smoking pot in a van. There is absolutely no excuse for driving under the influence, and for that reason I’m glad the soccer moms were arrested.

This subject is making me hungry, pardon me while I go munch on some Doritos.

I do not partake and have no interest in doing so, but I am tired of this war on drugs/crime/poverty stuff. When can we just cut our losses?
