wblackburn said: "If another large attack comes, however, more of the “sleeping giant” will awaken, and the result will take the world by surprise once again."

That's what scares me. Up till now the American people have accepted the proposition that the U.S. government is responsible for conducting an effective war on terror. In that regard, the war on terror is driven by the government and is NOT a popular movement.

God help us all if this war ever becomes "popular".

While there would be a huge outcry that Bush allowed attacks to happen for political purposes if such a thing does occur, I think the hue and cry for the blood of the attackers would get a Republican elected rather than Hillary, even if it WAS McCain. Americans are a whole lot more spiteful when someone kicks them than, say, Spain, where they DID elect the opposition party, who promptly pulled their troops out of Iraq.

There are more right-of-center people in this country than many realize, it's just that a lot of them have become either apathetic, or else beaten down by the screeching accusations of the Left into some sort of submission, because they allow themselves to feel guilty about things they shouldn't. If another large attack comes, however, more of the "sleeping giant" will awaken, and the result will take the world by surprise once again.
