New Book Defends Men

2006-09-21
By

Gents, I have been in the trenches on behalf of men, fathers, kids and families for 40 years (See me at Wikipedia.com, or query any of the old-timers in the movement), and have written a book, Save The Males, summarizing what I have learned therein.

It constitutes a defense of the male sex, and includes blistering attacks on the legal establishment, radical feminists, all factions of society including SNAGS (sensitive new age guys) and much of the media, who denigrate men – real men. Synopsis below. This 236 page book is available in printed and electronic form. The price is $16.45 for the print version or $6.95 for the e-book version, both are at http://www.lulu.com/mensdefense. $17.95 at Amazon.com and available by order at Barnes & Noble.

Thanks,

Richard Doyle

Save The Males

A synopsis

There is a great “to do” about the alleged problems women encounter by virtue of their gender. The problems of men, especially fathers, receive very little attention. In the last several generations of our feminized, lawyered-up society, the position of men has deteriorated significantly. The male of the species is under increasing attack - legally, politically, economically and culturally.

That famous phrase from George Orwell’s Animal Farm, “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others” is apropos. To say that gender bias is present is to state the obvious; the dogs in the street know it. Dual discrimination, pro-female and anti-male, is pervasive. This bias, a near universal Zeitgeist, is so institutionalized it is taken for granted. There are few expectations of women, and many of men. Oversimplified, the cause of men’s sorry situation is a combination of misplaced chivalry and misandry. This and the metastasizing of Feminism have severely damaged society.

A large part of this tome is devoted to domestic relations because that is where males and society are most harmed. Therein lie vast social engineering schemes and prejudices working to the detriment of traditional men and traditional families. Bad as it is, divorce is but one facet of a general pattern of discrimination, a double standard that extends into nearly all areas of law and society, in domestic relations, crime punishment, employment, and in men’s very image.

Listen to the experts: Esther Vilar, in her best seller, The Manipulated Man, calls the American male “the most exploited, the most suppressed, the most manipulated man on the face of the earth;” Linda Bowles said “It isn’t even close, the most abused, vilified, and sexually harassed Americans are white, heterosexual males. I don’t know why they put up with it — and I wish they wouldn’t;” Blackstone said “Woman is the favorite of the law”

Luther once compared humanity to a drunkard who, after falling off his horse on the right, remounts and falls off again on the left. That’s an excellent analogy to sexism. In the past, many prejudices favored men over women. Today, that situation is reversed. In The War Against Fathers, Dr Richard Hise explains that men have been so preoccupied with work and family that they haven’t noticed the incremental losses of their liberties and the increasing amounts of disrespect toward our sex. He compared it to a frog not noticing the slowly increasing temperature of the water he is in before he is boiled to death.

Paul Craig Roberts puts it thusly, “The war against men is real. It requires men to exercise care in choosing an occupation and in choosing a woman. The risk-reward ratios have deteriorated both for marriage and for working for a corporation. A bad choice can leave a man wounded, maimed, bereft of property and children, and in prison on trumped-up charges.”

Many political agendas and players are involved in this “rape of the male.” Save The Males exposes them and their sophistic arguments.

It is time, beyond time actually, to speak out, especially for the common man – the guy working on a farm, in a factory, in a garage, driving a truck, or laying bricks - men without the time, talent, or inclination to sit behind desks manipulating facts and statistics favorable to our cause, as our more glib detractors do.

Save The Males is a very small candle lit in a very dark night. It makes the case that restoration of men’s rights is the best route back to a civilized society. The book is the result of decades of research, divorce counseling and reform organizational work. The author, Richard Doyle, formed several men’s/fathers’ movement coalitions; he edited and published The Liberator, international newsmagazine of that movement for over 35 years.

Save The Males is a defensive action in the battle of the sexes, a warning to anyone who will listen of the dire consequences of anti-male attitudes. It is not intended to drag women down to the level of treatment accorded men, but to bring men up to that accorded women. The purpose is to rescue men, not to denigrate women. The book explores the realities of life, resurrects the old-fashioned concepts of right and wrong, and examines their eternal conflict in law and behavior. Law degrees, black robes or Roman collars aren’t needed to perceive these realities. In fact, such trappings are often detrimental.

Save The Male’s other-side of-the-coin arguments will outrage chivalrous instincts, but such instincts are largely responsible for society’s problems. This is plain talk; no sophistry or trendy jargon. It is logic – cold, cruel, inexorable, undeniable – with all the subtlety of a Panzer division. As Barry Goldwater said, “I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. Let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.” Like hitting a beehive with a stick, this book will be offensive to some, but how else can one deal with offensive subjects? It is not meant to be light-hearted entertainment. One cannot be humorous about the annual ruin of thousands of men, children, and families.

The whole question of men’s rights and of divorce is one that society would rather sweep under the rug. To most people it is inconvenient, embarrassing, politically incorrect or confusing. Certain subjects are offensive to many who would prefer not to face them, but their airing might prevent consequences far worse than ruffled feelings. The very idea of men’s rights is unpopular, and shocking. The anti-slavery cause was unpopular and shocking 140 years ago, as were earlier moral voices crying in the wilderness. Attacking popular misconceptions enrages elements in all social strata, as Galileo, Darwin, Freud, even Jesus Christ can attest.

Men are not better than women or always in the right; but women have the entire legal establishment oriented to help them, so this book is not overly concerned with women’s problems, however legitimate, just as the NAACP is not overly concerned with white people’s problems. Admittedly, there are evil men and good, competent women, and some traces of discrimination against women may remain. Save The Males makes the case that that which exists against men is vastly greater.

It is only common sense that gender justice will benefit women as well as men. Decent women, though they may read this with one eyebrow raised, do not want sons, brothers, and loved ones to suffer injustice, or the institution of marriage to disappear. Children deserve a family — father and mother, an environment free from prejudice — ethnic and sexual, and a country safe for marriage.

In the past, many prejudices favored men over women.

I think this statement is misleading. It comes across as submissive implying that the author doesn’t want to be seen as a misogynist. I’m sorry to be a nitpicker, but this needs to be nipped in the bud! Many prejuduces also favored women. By stating just half of the story implies that women are entitled victims which helped to create the mess we’re discussing in the first place.

The fact is that the misplaced chivalry and misandry that exists is just an extension of the privileges that women enjoyed in the past rather than feminism being a reaction to oppression. Clearly, if feminism was truly driven by oppression the first women it would have forcused upon for empowerment would have been poor, minority women rather than wealthy, upper class white career women.

Therefore, we need to tear down the whole notion of equality that feminism has attached itself to along with marxism and white-bashing racism.

Men and women are not equals and even feminism’s rhetoric argues that women need more goodies to deal with their special biological needs. It’s simple insanity to argue that society oppresses women by not providing them with taxpayer funded nannies and “family friendly” workplaces in order to help them make up for not being treated as equals.

The argument that women would benefit from men’s rights sounds eerily similar to feminism’s false claims that women’s rights were going to benefit men. Feminists quickly argued that the “benefit” men got was to forever be treated as second class citizens to make up for being monsters. That said, care does need to be taken that as hyperchivalry is torn down and special legal protections for women become irrelevent, that they won’t be treated as men have been. There are cultures that genuinely oppress women and ironically marxism and leftism is doing their best to empower the representatives of these cultures. Part of what is driving anti-feminist is the realization that even the worst hypothetical radical right wing Christian Patriarch is a sweetheart compared to what the future offers them.

    Hear hear Polishknight!!!

    I agree 100%.

Although I agree with much the author says, you are not knit picking. You are right. Why must men always believe they have to tone down men’s reality with peace offerings to women so as not to be seen as misogynist? This itself is an expression of traditional chivalry. Women have ALWAYS been privileged in this country. ALWAYS.
And it is WAY over time that men expressed this fact, and the injustices they deal with daily, with a very loud voice that is uncompromising.

    Hello,

I really wish someone would take the lead and organize everyone. I would do it but I don’t know how. What I do locally is like shooting a pea shooter at an elephant, trying to get it to change direction or even it’s attention. I know no one solution will have all the answers. I know things are not going to change overnight but every day I am bombarded with misandry to the point I want to puke.

    Sorry, thats my rant.

    Peace

I am so sorry Richard Doyle for my rant. You have produced one heck of a book and put tons and tons more effort in to things that I will ever do. I am so sorry again for my rant. I just had a bad day. Keep up the good work, and if you need any help just let me know. I am very good at research.

    Take care.

There is a need for leadership in men’s rights. He may come from the church. A man with moral authority needs to cast a vision to mobilize the troops.

Doyle, thanks for authoring an important book that may inspire a future leader.

I have been thinking the same thing about the leadership issue. We need public faces to put on the movement. There are a few, like Glenn Sacks and Phyllis Schlafly, but I rarely see them in the MSM.

Speaking of compromise, I was just thinking about the parallels’s between Pope Benedict and Pope John Paul. Both made compromises in their language but both brought on the ire of the powerful institutions of their day. Pope John Paul was targeted for assassination.

Anyways, back to the book: I think it does sum up neatly a lot of the issues our society faces similar to the landmark work “Why men are the way they are.”

About pea shooters and elephants: It’s said the the thing that most scares an elephant is a mouse. Same with feminism: It drives them crazy when men express themselves publically even in alternative media. The 1st amendment is important for a reason. Young women are constantly worried that men might wise up along with the huge problems that leftism has created for them. It’s important to remember that feminism and even leftism was never a philosophy of empowerment to begin with. These are people who are emotionally fragile and insecure otherwise they wouldn’t be leftists. It doesn’t take that much to bring them down. Look at the Berlin wall collapsing. That happened with barely a shot fired. A lot of leftists cried in their soy milk that day. It could very easily happen again.

Beware a semi-rant is about to insue.

There are a few things that have been rolling around in my head for the last few days and I feel i must express them to you all.

Do any of you find it strange that the genders have almost reversed themselves?
Women are taught to be aggressive, domineering, choosing career and thier own wants above all else. This supposedly as their right? Just what they claimed men did for all those years.

And men have been castrated. Told that their opinions didn’t matter. That they should be docile and grateful for the company of whatever woman befalls them? Then if the women wants a divorce the man has no say and usually he is left desitute paying off the wife and without most of his most valuable belongings? This of course is what women said was happening to them to most of an extent.

I hope with all of my heart that light finally shines down upon these issues and removes the injustice done to the males in our society. All we really need is one BIG court case that shows the VAWA and Affirmative Action and all the other laws that put women about us, are in fact, SEXIST and discriminate upon the citizen’s gender. Then one by one the laws could be torn down and some sembelance of normalacy could be returned.

Sorry for the rant. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would purchase a chunk of National TV time and air a wakeup call to all those men out there who have been pushed around and stomped on.

I’d like to also take an survey of all the men out there.
    1. When is the last time your wife showed appreciation to you for the work you do and the trouble you go through? (Sex doesn’t count otherwise women are nothing but prostitutes if they see sex with their husbands as a job)

    2. When is the last time you saw a father figure protrayed heroically or positively with another father figure being the evil side?

    3. When is the last time some bit of family law actually came across as fair and not extremely biased.

I’d wager dollars to donuts that each time would be a very long time. The only thing keeping the Men’s movement from bursting forth is that no attention is given to it. No charismatic leaders can stand up and voice opinions on national news. The Internet is slowly spreading the message, but some actual BIG NETWORK media coverage would go so much farther.

Anyway sorry for any grammatical or spelling errors I may have commited. And thank you for your time.

    good rant.

What I wonder about is those men who are very well off and have been screwed by the system.
I’m talking about a super rich male, such as a movie star, say Bruce Willis, or someone who is visible but rich in another way, like a Donald Trump. Someone so rich that no one can touch them. THESE guys can afford all the legal and other protection that will be required. And they will forever have a BIG place in history. If a guy like this got some good advisors on how to use the media to keep the issues visible, and some lawyers to mount legal challenges, I believe there would be legions of men who would become active and make their voices heard. Men would have some legal cover to challenge the Family Court system, hiring and promoting at work, sexual harrassment, and so on. Before long many legal firms would jump on in. I think a HUGE chain reaction would ensue.
