A good friend found out last month that his girlfriend lied to him that they had a child together – he suspected wrong doing then got a DNA test. For 2 1/2 years he paid money to her. Thankfully the situation was not before a family court, but between them.

So, they are never going to pay back any money they believe to be ‘their money”.
I know this, because if you investigate, you will learn that any child support debt is claimed by the state. They never even hint that it is for te child, so it is a fraud. So guys do what I did, stop paying and make arrangements to have a private deal. Take care of your children, just do it privately, under a contractual arrangement that is bilaterally enforceable. ie you make them give you something for what you pay.
It is fair, and it does wonders for restoring you status as a parent. You have some control once the state is pushed out of the deal.
