Will Senator-elect Webb Be an Ally to Conservatives?

Although some conservatives may deny it, the fact is that Jim Webb may not be that great a disaster for conservatism. In fact, Webb may be a stronger ally of conservatives than RINOs like Bill Frist, Chuck Hagel, Arlen Specter, and others.
See story about Webb being a Maverick.
Clearly Senator-elect Webb from Virginia is not likely to be boxed around by intellectual lightweights like Harry Reid. Webb is his own man, and is definitely to the right of center on nearly all issues.
His views on illegal immigration are especially welcome, since Webb seems to understand the devastating impact that third-world criminals from Mexico are inflicting on America. He seems willing to help stop the illegal invasion.
In that regard, Jim Webb is far more conservative that George W. Bush who has never met an illegal alien that he did not adore.
Perhaps the fiery Webb can help kill amnesty and inspire his Democrat and Republican colleagues to think “America First†when it comes to illegal aliens.
Doing so might even position Webb for bigger and better things in 2008—how about Jim Webb for president?
Wouldn’t it be refreshing to have a real conservative in the Oval Office for a change?

Webb has disavowed his 1979 anti-women-in-combat article “Women Can’t Fight”, arguing that it stemmed from a lack of maturity on his part. Hey, he was only 33; give the kid a break.
Regardless of one’s opinion on the issue of women in combat, the fact that he would turn tail so readily on that issue for political reasons suggests that he might turn tail on others.
He’s just a ******* politician, after all.

One of the great campaign mistakes by George Allen was to actually attack Webb for his previous hard right positions. This was to show that Webb was not properly positioned to run as a democrat but only wound up confusing the voters. Why point out a position in your opponent that your party agrees with? The Democrats can get away with this kind of taunting (for example, bashing sexual scandalous republicans as religious hypocrites who break the rules such as Foley) but republicans just don’t have that press backup to get away with it.
Webb may have had legitimate ideological objections to the Iraq war which is not exceptional. Many conservatives do. The Dems were desperate for credible military people to run on their ticket to try to escape the anti-military, anti-US label they’ve brought upon themselves.
Now time will tell if Webb really is committed to the values that managed to get him to SQUEAK into his seat by 0.31% of the vote OR if he was playing a faux conservative-anti-iraq candidate. Can the Dems keep him in line? Or maybe he might just switch parties or go independent?

Maybe Webb, Liberman, and Z. Miller will all turn GOP and give the majority back to conservatives. Liberman is not really that conservative but Webb and Miller are.

Webb will toe the party line or he will be relegated to a back office and a staff of 1.
The liklihood of Webb et al helping Conservatives is about the same as the Tooth Fairy dropping in on you tonight and dropping a 10C note on your pillow.
The Democrat Party “Leaders” are already moving rapidly back to their home territory, the extreme Left. American voters are suckers.
