I do sense that there are competing forces tugging at our population. I never get excited about conspiracy theories or groups like the Illuminati or whatever secret groups, many people fear are trying to rule the world. However, in this case I agree with you that both of these forces will be a problem for the US sovereignty in the future. While one force will try to make the world more unified economically through trade, the other force will try to make the world more unified through government. (The third possibility, you didn’t mention would be making the world more unified, through Christianity, the Church being God’s future answer, to the problem of the curse of Babel; this is the only one that has any possibility for success, when Jesus message, will be preached to all nations. But that isn’t my point.) I think these other attempts to unify the world, are grand visions, but will always be limited, by the same nagging trouble, faced in the past, by those who dreamed of world conquest, or world peace, throughout history, and even the Church eventually fractured into hostile opposing groups. Every culture is constantly changing, and becoming more different than their neighbors. They can hold a USSR together for a while, if they use a lot of force, but eventually the curse of Babel, effectively breaks it apart into its ethnic groups. This protects the whole world, form being dominated, by small groups of evil people. If you try to strip away people’s cultural identity, so they are not as hostile, they form new groups, based on their school mascots, or form new street gangs. The real danger I see, in these visionaries, is not in them being successful, but in their failure, and in what will be left in the wake of these ambitious people. After they have broken down our old social order, and replaced it with one that is inferior, or totally fail to replace. So many social movements have already twisted the US beyond recognition; these regions are so different they can no longer be represented, by a single political party; the US needs to be permanently divided, into at least five new countries.
