The worst thing that could happen: the child might read it first and get different ideas on what to believe, and then ask their parents questions, of which they should be capable of answering. Whether the child believes their parent or not is another thing... you can teach a child about religion, but no matter what you do, you can't decide if they will stay within that faith when they are grown.
