Musings on the Religion of Science

Science is man’s somewhat organized record of his ignorance of himself and the universe in which he lives. It is a direct outgrowth of the European, feminine, materialistic culture, which does not understand anything that it cannot see. Aristotle, one of the earlier practitioners of what has become known as the scientific approach, gathered, analyzed, classified, and recorded. He amassed information on a multitude of natural manifestations such as seashells, rocks, fish, and various flora and fauna. He used deductive reasoning in conjunction with his analysis to get to the truth or essence of a particular matter; however, he never got to the truth. The European philosophers that came after Aristotle all searched for the truth but they never found it.

To compensate for their lack of knowledge, the European intelligentsia came up with “theories”, which were nothing more than guesses as to what might be the truth. These theories, when repeated often enough become accepted as fact and then become revered. This reverence for what is ignorant is akin to the practice that existed in China about a century ago when the feet of Chinese girls were bound so that they could not grow to normal size, in order to emulate the feet of the emperor’s daughter, which were deformed. An abnormality was held up to as something to strive for, much as the ignorance of science is held up as something to strive for. When science comes to the realization that it has an erroneous theory, it comes up with a new theory that it heralds as a scientific breakthrough.

One such area of changing theories was in regards to man’s understanding of matter. When in high school, part of my physics instruction indicated that matter could neither be created nor destroyed. As proof of this theory it was determined that if something was burned, the total residue of the fire plus the total of all the gases emanating from the fire would equal the sum total of matter of the object that was burned. This was a typically European and feminine theory; a god was made of matter, an entity that could neither be created nor destroyed.

I compare this scientific theory with what was written by a mystic in 1904 in which he stated that science considers matter to be neither creatable nor destructible, but that within 50 years it will understand that matter is but a form of energy. He went on to say that those who would be born in the early part of the century would chuckle when they read this, because they will have witnessed the change in scientific theories. I was one of those people who chuckled for at the very time that I was in my physics class learning the theory of the indestructibility of matter scientists were working to develop the atom bomb, a manifestation of the converting of matter into energy. After the atom bomb was developed and used to blow up two cities, the physics courses were changed to include a more “advanced” theory about matter and energy, which stated that matter was a form of energy, and energy could neither be created nor destroyed. The mystical text went on to indicate that eventually science would learn that energy is but a form of mind.

The comparison of the mystical and scientific understanding of matter and energy is equivalent to the comparison of knowledge to ignorance, of the unseen to the seen, of the masculine principle to the feminine principle, and most importantly of the understanding of the oneness of all existence with the concept of independence and separateness. A whole universe of knowledge exists outside of the physical one that science classifies and records, and there is nothing wrong with using the scientific approach to learn what makes the physical world tick, after all it did enable European man to learn (belatedly) that the earth rotates around the sun; however, when it exalts its ignorance and puts down the learned, science becomes a dangerous weapon in the hands of the few. Its ignorance becomes arrogance and its belief system becomes a religion enforced by an aristocratic and credentialized hierarchy.

The ignorance of the scientific approach can be found by logging on to Google and looking up a subject of your choice. There you will find scientific viewpoints that disagree with each other, frequently on the same page. Two subjects I looked into were the sperm count of the American male, and global warming. Under the first category I found papers written indicating that the sperm count has dropped, some said by 25%, some by 35% and some by 50%. On the same page I found a scientific report indicating that there is no evidence that the sperm count had dropped at all in the past 50 years. In regards to global warming, I found reports indicating the severity of the situation caused by global warming and the catastrophic events that could occur because of it. I also found reports indicating that global warming was a scientific myth. If the results of scientific studies can be so contradictory, the scientific approach should be suspect; instead, it has become a highly revered religion.

Do we not see daily in the papers or hear on the radio or television what science says about this or that? To even use the term science as a noun gives it an identity, a sense of being. Like all religions it has its hierarchy. Scientists write papers, books, and articles, which gives them ranking in the pecking order of their specific field. The universities they went to and the numbers of degrees they possess are used to measure their stature in the community. They form sub-sects of their religion according to their field of study, have membership, and conduct symposiums in which new theories are aired or old theories reinforced. We become so awed by the priesthood of science that even the government invites them to address various congressional committees.

There is nothing wrong with showing respect for science, the thing that I caution you about, is not to be awed by what scientists say. They are ignorant people groping for the truth, and all too often they enjoy basking in their own ignorance. Knowledge does not come from scientists, or from universities, or from the government. The only source of knowledge is the Godhead. It is transmitted through the masculine principle and then materialized and personalized by the feminine principle into worldly information. We live in the information age, not the knowledge age, and certainly not in an age of truth. The tendency of the Western culture to see everything in material terms and then make a religion of their belief system tends to draw all of us into its religious web of ignorance.

Actually, I prefer engineering to science.
You see, science seems to be all about theories and proofs and such.
Whereas in engineering, the only question is:
    Does the damn thing work?
If it works then the questions we ask are:
Is it safe to use? Can we make it work better?
Can we build it for less money?
The MSM, being made up of sub-atomic particles called morons and peons, will say something truly stupid as, “Scientists developed a gizmo that allows mariners to manufacture fresh water out of saltwater.”
No, it would be engineers who would develop such a device. Scientists merely determine the salinity of salt water and observe the phenomenon that when water evaporates, the steam is not salty and when such steam condenses, the resulting liquid is free of salt. It is the engineer who comes up with a device that uses such phenomenon.
Whatever religion there may be with scientists, the religion of the engineer is to make practical devices that meet a need and work, and are safe and reliable. As possible within the cost the customer is willing to pay.
    Kinda like capitalism.

    EXTREME CARE. Blow Job Warnings.

This screen message consists of minute electrically charged particles moving at velocities in excess of Five Hundred Million Miles P/hr. If these particles gang up, they could blow your underpants off along with anything contained within. Also…

The Mass of the computer screen you are viewing contains the energy equivalent of 85 Mega-tons of TNT per nett ounce of weight. No liability will be entertained if you are sitting within reading distance when it goes off.

Now, y’all be careful and say your prayers now.

This article represents nothing more than a profound ignorance of the philosophy of science, refracted by the author’s own bizarre beliefs, for which proof is neither forthcoming nor possible. The irony is palpable. Possibly the Godhead speaking through his masculine principle has something to say on this, but I strangely seem to have lost interest.

    Elder George Says:

    To Palinurus,

Very well said. You have succinctly described the limited ability of Western man to deal with the unseen. Knowledge is not proveable, it is understood. It is unseen. Since Western man cannot understand other than what he can see, he lives in a world devoid of knowledge but drowning in information. That’s why he can’t resolve any of the issues facing him and is also the reason he can’t do anything about feminism, the symptom of his inability to understand and excercise his manhood.

A rambling incoherent collection of specious non sequiturs from reactionary superstitions. Science has demolished religion.

I respect Elder Gearge for one thing…he falls either intentionally or unintentionally into pointing out the dilemma that blows Big shooter away with an even bigger shooter. It’s is very self satisfying to embrace science, especially if you have more then an average acumen in yechnical and scientific matters. I suffered this condition for years having excelled in the sciences and graduating in the top of the chemical engineering class, wow, I knew it all, or what I didn’t know I thought I only needed to pursue the information from the “scientist” responsible and my superior grasp of physics and chemistry and those dang LaPlacian transforms would enable me to at least have a basic understanding of everything. The problems with my set of beliefs were many, but one I think is shared by most psuedo techno intellectuals…that is that I ASSUMED someone somewhere had an answer to evetrything, scientifically, and therefore I needn’t bother to nail down conclusively every single question. There simply could not be a question that science couldn’t answer, right? And when I heard people make the point I’m about to make I found it sophmoric, even juvenile. But, as I got older and never lost my fascination with science even well outside my field, and read about astrophysics (no, I do not claim to understand that stuff, but laymans articles geared for an audience like me have always fascinated me)and I watched the ridiculous hoops and proposed invented “constants” and existence of things unobservable and unmeasurable just to make the math balance I realized it was not viable beyond a certain point. Dark Matter? Come on folks. Just because the equation balances now sure isn’t enough for me. But you don’t seem to see this as a belief in the unseen because scientists say it.

My main point though Big shooter, and the one rarely address, I guess due to its simplicity, is what is the math that represents the existence of NOTHING, and from that subsequestly SOMETHING? Children raise this question, “Where did God come from?” Good one! Where did anything come from? Big shooters friends will start with the Big Bang, NEVER pondering before, and before that, and before that. There is not one single theory explaining or even attempting top explain the literal existence of nothing, pure nothingness, our minds cannot get around that concept.
Thats where the supernatural MUST come in, regardless what kind of supernatural, it MUST be supernatural, and Elder George does a great job alluding always to this fact.

    Elder George Says:

Big Shooter said, “Science has demolished relgion.”

Religion and science are on the same materialistic plane. Religion is the feminization of the truth, which comes from the unseen. The feminine principle materializes and peronalizes the impersonal concepts of the unseen. This is especially true of Constantineism, which we call Christianity. European thought created both science and Christianity, it cannot deal with what is unseen, which is knowledge; instead it creates belief systems and then requires others to worship them.

    Elder George Says:

    To concervativation,

Your comments touched on the reasoning supporting the immortality of the soul. No matter how much we try, we cannot imagine ourselves as not being. We might see our bodies in the coffin, but who is doing the seeing? It’s an intersting exercise to try; imagine that you no longer exist.

Science at its best is temporary, and limited. Little of what I was taught in school still is taught. Science has always been something that had to be restrained because its nature is to provide material answers to all questions. Like the movie Contact said 95% of the people on the planet disagree with that nonsense. Science also has a problem in its pantheistic assumptions of previous generations of scientists. Is it necessary for gravity and other laws of science to be impersonal forces? I prefer animistic explanations for the world. Humans can understand the material universe but know we are more than that. Humans can understand the plant part of the world but know we are more than that. Humans can connect with the animal spirits but know we are more than that. Humans can connect with other spirits, angels, demons, but know we are more than that. Humans can connect to Satan or to God but know we are more than that. Some Christians think only God is out there. I think there is plenty of evidence that God has left lots of personal spirit beings with the responsibilities of maintaining the order of the universe, and some oppose God others obey God. No matter how much effort science uses to beat us into thinking we are only material, someone will come along and create another Harry Potter story, and satisfy the hunger created by the scientists.

I was just watching science channel 100 greatest discoveries, which almost all were made by white Christian men, and none were made by atheist-materialist-scientists. I didn’t have to force myself to watch it. I really enjoyed it. They kept saying over and over “so this really changed the world,” which they should correct to more accurately state “so this really changed how we understand and explain the world. The thing I found most interesting is that however they decided to vote for the top 10 discoveries by polling their viewers they ended up with, as more important than the periodic table of the elements that is the backbone of the high tech lifestyle we live, as more important than germ theory which made unparalleled improvements in the health in all of our lives, the science channel viewers thought the most important discovery was Charles Darwin’s theory. Maybe someday I’ll try to make a case that their Jesus is Darwin. From what I can see the only effect Charles Darwin had on us was demythification of our origin. I also found it surprising that they allowed a quote to remain in the script that I had never heard, about Charles Darwin by his wife expressing her fears that they would end up in two different places.

    Elder George Says:

    To Chas,

Thanks for your comments. I imagine that the “discovery” that the Earth rotated around the Sun made the list of 100; if not Copernicus and Galileo must be very disappointed. Their discovery was suppressed by white Christian men and the Catholic Church did not lift its ban on the teachings of these men until less than 200 years ago.

Long before these white Christian men the Mithraics had calculated the perception of the earth through the Zodiac. The Mayans calculated the rotation of the earth around the Sun to within three seconds a year. Long before the Mayans, astronomers and astrologers in India and China new that the earth went around the Sun. The pyramid builders knew it as did the builders of the Sphinx. All these civilizations knew the earth rotated around the Sun and they acquired this knowledge without telescopes. What white Christian men call a discovery the whole world knew beforehand. It was only a discovery to the European.

I won’t explain my challenges to the germ theory, periodic table and whatever else they came up with except to say they are no more real than latitude and longitude, left and right, and North, East, South, and West.
