Muslims hardly ever swear with their hand on the Koran in their own countries, except for maybe in Syria where it is still a common practice. In other Muslim countries, in the vast majority of cases where people would be sworn in, they simply raise their hand and swear. In the few cases, where there is a lot of uncertainty about a man’s truthfulness, to leave the man with Allah, they bring in a Koran require the man to place his hand on the Koran, and make his statement before Allah, then let him go. They also used to swear with their hand on the Koran in marriage ceremonies, but don’t any more.
