Here’s a thought…
Let’s go back to a world where we allow parents to be parents. Let’s go back to a world where that mom or dad COULD have picked up the little brat turned her over their knee and worn her hindend out. Fact is… that nowadays if either one of those parents would have done more than whisper sternly to that little girl, SOMEONE on that plane would have accused them of barbaric parenting (more than likely someone who has never raised a child).
All children misbehave, all children have tantrums and all children need to be occasionally corrected. But normally when our children misbehave in public, instead of being able to correct the problem with authority and effectively teach our children… we find ourselves begging and pleading with our children to behave. We try to reason with our kids instead of risking being viewed as heavy handed. Anyone who has ever tried to reason with a 3 year old has lost – it’s impossible to win. That does nothing but give more power to a child who is already overwhelmed.
The airline handled the situation properly. The parents more than likely did everything that they felt that they could do under the scrutiny of their fellow passengers… but we as a society are failing our children by disallowing parents the freedom to act decisively. Parents – spank your children when they need it, be firm, be fair and be strong. Do not beg your child to behave – EXPECT that they will behave and correct them when they don’t. The airline should not have had to kick that child off because one of the parents should have already made the threat and carried it out… “Young lady, don’t make me take you off this plane…”

The liberal/socialist mindset allows spoiled brats and man-hating feminists to do whatever they like without the fear of any consequences for their actions. This concept is learned in schools throughout this country from day one! Of course, it’s against the law to hurt anyone’s feelings (e.g. do not mark a wrong answer on a test in red, politically correct labels and failure to keep scores during a game or any type of competition.)

Cardinal parenting rule:

Parents should be required to be just a tad smarter than their children.

How many times has one witnessed a publicly misbehaving, temper-tantrum can’t-have-my-way child being considered “cute”?

I really hope this event is the start of something good. I think the flight crew did the right thing. Flying is bad enough without Mr & Mrs Freespirit and their undisciplined offspring making a bad thing worse. As I understand it delaying a flight is not something that is taken lightly by authorities, the age of the person causing the disturbance should be irrelevant. Plus, how much does it cost the airline to have an aircraft sitting on the ramp and missing connecting flights for no good reason?

I think you went a bit too far when misspelling their surname. That’s actually an interesting allegory for the “No Fly” list where people are being judged based upon their surname (as if dangerous individuals couldn’t get their names changed and a new passport.)

Back to the topic: the airline bent over backwards to accomodate the parents and it appears that the parents might be itching for a lawsuit after having rejected the offer of a refund and free ticket.

It’s difficult to justify giving the child a swat to the bottom when California legislators are seeking to make such physical discipline illegal. It may even be counterproductive since the short term effects of such punishment is to make the child cry _louder_. The flight crew seems to have made the right decision because even if the parents might have calmed down the brat (I say that not to be vicious but as a literal description) it’s possible that such misbehaviour might have flared up again during the flight.

Nationalvoice: You’re right that she’s not a direct physical threat to passenger safety but such behaviour is a _distraction_ and therefore could hamper the flight crew from performing other safety duties. Not to mention normal comfort tasks such as serving meals and attending to the needs of other passengers. This is an enclosed almost claustrophobic environment where people have to sit for hours. That brings us to:

Come of think of it, I think it would be neat if airlines could set up “adult only” flights (with parents with children getting preference for the reserved seats on the “child friendly” flights) so that adults and those with larger children could enjoy a flight in peace without infants bawling during takeoff and landing.

Sadly, such good ideas seem to be bad business sense to most businesses which prefer a “festival seating” model and would rather see us fly in discomfort rather than risk having unsold seats in special sections. I was just thinking last night about my sister taking my wife and I out for dinner in Arizona and not occurring to her how I am allergic to cigarette smoke. It’s clear that a sizable percentage of the population cannot enjoy a night out with such fumes because businesses don’t want to risk alienating a key demographic. I hate government intervention, but this is an example of where businesses cannot do the right thing on their own intiative.

At the same time… RPR, a lot of this whole Nazis-in-the-skies mess is due to political correctness and fear of profiling that was started up by Latinos and African-American special interest PACS and taken over by the Islamicists. So now in order try to keep crazed looked shoe bombers in line, everyone has to do a 2 hour long chicken dance in security and deal with pustch-frau stewardesses. If only we could control and utilitize governments with the same efficiency a redneck controls their guns…

NationalVoice, didn’t you see that see would not take her seat? It wasn’t about her crashing the plane, it was about legally being able to taxi from the gate OR waiting until the overindulged little princess decided she was ready to sit calmly.
I’m glad they escorted them off, and wish they didn’t give them more then a refund. They ned to write it into policy to insulate from legal actions.
This from a father of 4, ages 16 years down to 16 months…yea I’ve flown w/ em a few times.

Yep, and they should kick parents out of movie theaters when their brats fuss and cry.

Ummm..wait just a second…aren’t we the adults and shouldn’t we be able to ignore such distractions?

I just don’t know if removing that child and her parents was the right thing to do. After all, I don’t think that the kid was going to crash the plane….unless she had a box cutter hidden in her diapers..

I don’t think they should ban all kids 6 and under from flying, since they need to travel. But I do think the airline was justified in kicking out the child and her parents. I could sympathize with the parents, because three year olds are not always obedient. I don’t think it matters how you raise them nowadays, they’re always brats. But on the other hand, an airplane cannot delay its schedule just for one person! The airline did more than enough to accomodate the child and her parents. I just hope that next time they board a plane, the girl will sit down with no problems.

I bet the passengers were happy. I think small kids are so adorable, and a little fussing is inevitable, but no matter how I try to put up with them when they won’t behave, they still get on my last nerve.

This little girl is well on her way to taking her place in the world. How dare the airline expect her to behave herself. Women everywhere will rise up in protest at this oppression. The poor little girl was simply expressing herself, shirley.
