Study: Driving With The Window Open Causes Cancer
Newsflash: Scientific research study shows breathing oxygen is a cancer risk
That’s a fake headline, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if some quack study arrived at that conclusion. It seems that just about everything under the sun causes cancer.
Here’s a complete list of things that cause cancer according to epidemiologists. (List complete at least as of an hour ago.)
List obtained from:
“Acetaldehyde, acrylamide, acrylonitril, abortion, agent orange, alar, alcohol, air pollution, aldrin, alfatoxin, arsenic, arsine, asbestos, asphalt fumes, atrazine, AZT, baby food, barbequed meat, benzene, benzidine, benzopyrene, beryllium, beta-carotene, betel nuts, birth control pills, bottled water, bracken, bread, breasts, bus stations, calcium channel blockers, cadmium, captan, carbon black, carbon tetrachloride, careers for women, casual sex, car fumes, celery, charred foods, chewing gum, Chinese food, Chinese herbal supplements, chips, chloramphenicol, chlordane, chlorinated camphene, chlorinated water, chlorodiphenyl, chloroform, cholesterol, low cholesterol, chromium, coal tar, coffee, coke ovens, crackers, creosote, cyclamates, dairy products, deodorants, depleted uranium, depression, dichloryacetylene, DDT, dieldrin, diesel exhaust, diet soda, dimethyl sulphate, dinitrotouluene, dioxin, dioxane, epichlorhydrin, ethyle acrilate, ethylene, ethilene dibromide, ethnic beliefs, ethylene dichloride, Ex-Lax, fat, fluoridation, flying, formaldehyde, free radicals, french fries, fruit, gasoline, genes, gingerbread, global warming, gluteraldehyde, granite, grilled meat, Gulf war, hair dyes, hamburgers, heliobacter pylori, hepatitis B virus, hexachlorbutadiene, hexachlorethane, high bone mass, HPMA, HRT, hydrazine, hydrogen peroxide, incense, infertility, jewellery, Kepone, kissing, lack of exercise, laxatives, lead, left handedness, Lindane, Listerine, low fibre diet, magnetic fields, malonaldehyde, mammograms, manganese, marijuana, methyl bromide, methylene chloride, menopause, microwave ovens, milk hormones, mixed spices, mobile phones, MTBE, nickel, night lighting, night shifts, nitrates, not breast feeding, not having a twin, nuclear power plants, Nutrasweet, obesity, oestrogen, olestra, olive oil, orange juice, oxygenated gasoline, oyster sauce, ozone, ozone depletion, passive smoking, PCBs, peanuts, pesticides, pet birds, plastic IV bags, polio vaccine, potato crisps (chips), power lines, proteins, Prozac, PVC, radio masts, radon, railway sleepers, red meat, Roundup, saccharin, salt, selenium, semiconductor plants, shellfish, sick buildings, soy sauce, stress, strontium, styrene, sulphuric acid, sun beds, sunlight, sunscreen, talc, tetrachloroethylene, testosterone, tight bras, toast, toasters, tobacco, tooth fillings, toothpaste (with fluoride or bleach), train stations, trichloroethylene, under-arm shaving, unvented stoves, uranium, vegetables, vinyl bromide, vinyl chloride, vinyl fluoride, vinyl toys, vitamins, vitreous fibres, wallpaper, weedkiller (2-4 D), welding fumes, well water, weight gain, winter, wood dust, work, x-rays.”
Now it turns out that frequent driving is linked to skin cancer. From CBSNews.Com:
“You might want to slather on the sunscreen before getting behind the wheel – early research results suggest frequent driving can raise your chances of skin cancer.
We’re also finding that all drivers who occasionally drive with the windows open had a higher incidence of left-sided skin cancers,” Fosko adds.
Most front windshields are designed to block the sun’s ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, while side and rear windows are typically designed to block only UVB rays.”
I love to drive, especially with the driver’s side window open, it’s my way of unwinding. I will continue to drive, with the window open and the radio blaring, and I don’t give a hoot if it causes skin cancer.
To avoid all risk of cancer you have to avoid the sun, not ingest anything (including food), not touch anything and not breath air.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I ignore all these scientific studies that show that certain chemicals, products or activities cause cancer.

Bad news for you. Obsessing about Britney also causes cancer.

If obsessing about Britney causes cancer, I’m a dead man walking.

yeah,, you are a dead man walking…
we are all a dead man/woman walking…

Life is death inducing. Whose idea was it?

“Man that is born of woman is of a few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.”

That is not very encouraging at all! LOL! I lost track of what we are not supposed to eat and do a long time ago. There are too many things that could cause or encourage cancers or other diseases. I think almost anything is good in moderation. I would never stop eating/doing all of those things just because there’s a chance of getting cancer. That would be like not crossing the street for fear that someone would run you over… it COULD happen, but it is not that likely.
Robert, Although obsessing about Britney causes cancer, you could counteract that by obsessing over Hillary Clinton!!!!
February 4th, 2007 at 7:28 am
Sorry, KVolz but that is terrible advice. Obsessing over Hillary will end up with you lying dead in a field with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the back.

If I ever obsess over Hillary, like I do over Britney, I hope the editor revokes my posting privileges.

I think death, even a painful one, is preferable.

Liberalism causes cancer.

This kind of attitude demonstrated here is dangerous IMHO. Our knowledge is imperfect and many fallacious theories exist but nevertheless efforts should be made to learn what does and does not cause health problems.
I know this that I have read 3 health / nutrition books in the last few months. This has resulted in loss of over 20 pounds already. I generally feel much better although I have the flu now.
The danger is that ridicule of health research and claims results in people stop even trying to be healthy. Health is one’s most important asset, and I for one believe many modern foods and practices are extremely adverse to health.
In my area of the country, people are dying off left and right in their 40s and 50s. The biggest culprit is diabetes which is largely diet caused.

“I don’t give a hoot if it causes skin cancer.”
Unless you think you can blame any eventual sickness on a corporation with deep pockets of course. Then pull out the victim card and bring on the lawsuit.

Of course it does! And, Robert, your prediction about breathing oxygen is certain to pass within (most of) our lifetimes.
This is the tragedy of living under the rule of man-god. In his magnificent intelligence is an abyss of foolishness that will destroy those who bow too deeply.
There is no reward without risk, no absolute zone of safety, no perfectly rational, clinically validated prescription for living. Doctors are exceedingly fallible, researchers tunnel-visioned, and scientists vain. Like our judges, though their garb speaks to their elevated position, it is a thin veneer that too often covers inner corruption.
The final conclusion is that living causes death, as amfortas has noted. What then? Do we want freedom, or eternal presevation in amber?
