Who and What is Squeaky Fromme?

Who is Lynnette (“Squeaky,” “Red”) Fromme and why can she still attract public attention? The initial answer, of course, is her association with the world’s most notorious criminal, Charles Manson.

Lynnette Fromme and Charles Manson were together for only two years when they were abruptly separated by the latter’s arrest for his part in the brutal Tate-LaBianca mass murders. Squeaky, as Fromme is usually called, was not among the killers. But the hoopla surrounding Manson’s supposed domination of his homicidal hippie “Family,” together with the cartoonish Helter Skelter motive presented in court and in the best-selling book of the same name, secured Charles Manson a permanent place in the halls of infamy.

Even a quarter century after the fact, Manson’s pic is dug out of journalist’s files on days when real news is slow. When “A Current Affair” devoted a half-hour to a Manson retrospective a few years ago, Fromme was briefly interviewed and professed her continuing love for Manson. She said, “If they would just put us together, even if it was in a cage, I wouldn’t care.” The wish is rather humble. As well as perfectly futile.

Why is Fromme so grotesque? She is not a “real” assassin. In her own famous words, the gun she pointed at President Ford “didn’t go off.” Indeed, her supposed attempt on his life may well have been intended to fail.

Fromme’s true significance is obscured by her association with the self-indulgence of the “sex and drug cult” 60s. Her devotion to Charles Manson has been, of necessity, an awesomely chaste one. Waiting for decades, and waiting in vain, for the man she loves, Squeaky Fromme has lived out one of the primal myths of Western civilization. She is the modern world’s Penelope. Perhaps it says something about our era that this Penelope appears to the general public as a monster, rather than a saint, of faithfulness.

Sainthood requires more than one virtue. Ms. Fromme’s adoration of a celebrity loon is not enough. She must also profess beliefs congruent with those held by whoever is proposing this secular canonization, and there she fails. She’s just another loony. Her psychology is difficult to imagine, and even more difficult to care about.

Denise, you do not look like you are too young to remember the Manson family horror or the terror of southern California while they conducted their killing. Perhaps you’ve forgotten that there was a child in Sharon Tate’s womb that was cut out during her murder. ANYONE associated with Charlie Manson, who participated in ANY part of that horrible crime, deserves the punishment they received and the public ridicule/scorn that they deserve. For you to even attempt to portray this vile person as anything other than the sick, sick filth that she is (and has proven herself to be) truly disgusts me. I am always wary of those that would attempt to rewrite history…….

Manson was a small time criminal that received so much attention because he gave instructions to killers of a HOLLYWOOD celebrity. Now we Islamos mass murderering people by the dozens and committing child sacrifice to murder other innocent people and half the country’s liberals are in sympathy with them. If Manson had committed said crime today outside of hollywood, he would have been out of prison inside of two years.

Poor Penelope is scandalised to be likened to Squeaky. Penny was kidnapped, had a force 9 Stockholm Syndrome with a touch of PAS, never raised a gun at anyone, and brough the Spring back with her annual parole. (And she had a rather fetching husky voice)

More to the point, I didn’t even remember her Manson connection. She was an attempted assasin of a sitting President. THAT is what she should be known for. At least to me. JMHO.
