Sports:  NHL

In the National Hockey League on Monday, Swedish hockey star Peter Forsberg scored the go-ahead goal in the third period as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Detroit Red Wings, 6-1.

Tomas Holmstrom opened the scoring for the Red Wings at 11-53 of the opening period before Mike Richards tied the game five minutes later.

After a scoreless second period, the Flyers exploded for five goals in the third period. It was only the Flyers’ 15th win this season.

The victory was also the second straight at home for the Flyers, who had lost a team-record 13 consecutive games in Philadelphia.

The Red Wings have lost five straight at Philadelphia dating back to January 1997.
