RADAR ALERT:
VAWA, I-VAWA, and CEDAW: Why Men Now Fear Marriage
Misery Loves Company - Have A Piece Of VAWA/I-VAWA Pie
In 1996 Congress found “Marriage is the foundation of a successful society.” In 2005 the Deficit Reduction Act provided $150 million a year for healthy marriage promotion and fatherhood. So why was the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) extended in 2006, when it directly affects the stability of marriages and relationships between fathers and children in America? (http://mediaradar.org/docs/VAWA-Threat-to-Families.pdf)
The way VAWA is written, a woman can report that she’s in fear, and with just her word she can get a temporary restraining order and emergency child custody order. Every day innocent fathers visit their children in jail-like supervised visitation centers and are forced into anger management classes, sometimes for years. (http://mensnewsdaily.com/2007/02/26/cant-find-a-husband)
American men are turning away from marriage and parenthood; many simply won’t risk losing everything, including their children. John Burke speaks for many when he says,
“I can think of a dozen people off the top of my head that fear having children. I really wish the world would smarten up. I have often thought of giving up and just going to a third world country where these crazy lobby groups have not destroyed the countries yet.”
Hopefully, it’s not too late. Even though it’s clear that VAWA is seriously flawed (see http://www.mediaradar.org/docs/VAWA-A-Culture-of-False-Allegations.pdf), Presidential candidate Senator Joe Biden wants to export this wretchedness to other countries. Biden plans on introducing two bills, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), a dangerous treaty promoted by the United Nations, and the International Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA).
According to Domenico Fumagalli, President of Papa’ Separati Lombardia, VAWA-influenced Pari Opportunita is already harming families. They are currently distributing a “highly violent” TV Spot, declaring that one out of two women in Italy are abused in their homes” (http://www.papaseparatilombardia.org/on_line/home.asp) With CEDAW and I-VAWA in place, we’d see more families destroyed, and more fatherless children worldwide.
Is this a gift we want to give our international friends? Members of Biden’s own party have expressed concern that the U.S.’ unilateral intervention in Iraq has grievously harmed the perception of the U.S. in world opinion. How much lower will our reputation sink in the eyes of our international friends if Congress arrogantly assumes the power to write laws for other countries, then uses the power of the purse to impose them by treaty.
If you want to protect our international friends from the heartbreak and devastation our citizens have to endure, send this alert to your local media and representatives. Tell them to REJECT CEDAW AND I-VAWA.

This just in from N.O.W.:
The National Coalition for Immigrant Women’s Rights
Press Release
For Immediate Release
Contact: Mai Shiozaki, 202-628-8669, ext. 116; cell 202-641-1906
March 5, 2007
The National Coalition on Immigrant Women’s Rights (NCIWR) will address members of Congress and their staff on the dire need to improve the lives of immigrant women living in the United States. NCIWR is a coalition of progressive, grassroots women’s organizations advocating for immigration reform legislation that ensures the rights of all immigrant women, and their families, living and working in U.S.
This is the first time that members of Congress and their staff will be briefed on the issue of improving immigration reform legislation with regard to immigrant women. The comprehensive stories and the real needs of immigrant women have not been adequately brought before Congress and the press. Millions of immigrant women’s voices have been silenced long enough, and it is time for Congress to listen and do the right thing.
What: The National Coalition for Immigrant Women’s Rights briefs members of Congress
Who: Kiran Ahuja, Executive Director, National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum
Olga Vives, Executive Vice President, National Organization for Women
Joanne Lin, Senior Staff Attorney, Immigrant Women Program, Legal Momentum
Hannah Sin, Community Outreach Director, Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project
Aishia Glasford, Policy Analyst, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health
When: Wednesday, March 7, 2007
9:30am-10:00am breakfast
10:00am program begins
Where: 2237 Rayburn House Office Building
The wording alone is enough to conclude that this will end up being a man-bashing event. It certainly appears that feminists can make generalizations about women and men: “dire need”, “comprehensive stories and the real needs of immigrant women have not been adequately brought before Congress and the press. Millions of immigrant women’s voices have been silenced long enough.” Nothing here about immigrant men. Men seeking spouses outside the U.S. are in the sites of the N.O.W. cows. Yet another example of feminists doing everything they can to damage the relationships that men have with women. But MRAs aren’t suppose to express anger otherwise they get grouped in with the abusers, etc.

Did the Mount St Helen’s fallout contain some toxic stuff that turned these people’s brains to mush? Or is the USA commiting a slow suicide? The venom drips from NOW. And there is PRP calling for the President to condemn Ann Coulter for a remark about ‘faggots’. Why don’t they just come out and call for another man to be thrown on the fire.

Denis,
I requested today that you write an article about your work in the safehouse, as an MRA(request is under S Guess - second posting of his article about how we mens rights activists are obsessed with women battering men as often as men batter women- ) your comments - often - are so useful that an article the readers of mensnewsdaily can print, share with others, just seems necessary. Please consider it. From NOW propaganda, to male bashing to doing the work anyway, it’s a great story.

I heard a story today about prostitution in New York, about teen girls, as if hundreds of teen boys are not working in New York as prostitutes … it’s like the worry about immigrant women, not immigrant men, worry about battered women, not battered men, … it’s so easy, just pull the pants down, hey, no vagina, no services… next.
