Study Shows Need for Unbiased Domestic Violence Services

Many men suffer physical abuse from their female partners, live in fear of them, and are denied help by the domestic violence system, according to a ground-breaking study recently published in the Journal of Family Violence.

The study describes 190 male callers to a domestic violence hotline, men from all walks of life who found that resources for males seeking help with an abusive female partner are virtually nonexistent. It appears to be common for abusive wives to use controlling behaviors, and they are especially prone to using their children as pawns to control their husbands. And federally funded shelters and hotlines commonly deny services to men, and ignore Congress’ stated intent that services are to be
provided to victims regardless of gender.

Co-author Edward Dunning explains that the idea for the study was conceived by Mark Rosenthal, now President of Respecting Accuracy in Domestic Abuse Reporting (RADAR). “I worked closely with Mark during his term as a member of the helpline’s board. He broached the idea that the data we’d been collecting was the only data in the world at that time on the characteristics of men who’ve been subjected to violence by the women in their lives. He realized that this data could be an invaluable
resource in furthering society’s understanding of the dynamics of family violence.”

“The situations described by these callers are hardly surprising to anyone who has followed high-profile cases of female violence” explains Rosenthal. “Clara Harris, for example, repeatedly drove over her husband while their daughter begged her not to kill her father. Men are not the only victims of a system that refuses to recognize that some women can be abusive. The children in these families are also victimized when the parent they look to for protection is denied help for no reason other
than having been born male.”

Dunning, co-founder of the Family Interventions Project in Vacaville, Calif. began answering helpline calls shortly after completing a study of men and women convicted of domestic violence. Both that study and the one just published explored the dynamics of intimate partner violence using the Duluth Power and Control Wheel. “Conventional wisdom holds that all domestic violence stems from male power and control, as evident in DV laws and policies. Both of these studies strongly indicate that
this belief system is incorrect. Females are equally capable of power and control behaviors.”

“Allowing callers to define their own problems in their own words provided a method of controlling for researcher bias and yielded practical information on working with males in abusive relationships,” says Dunning. After the data had been collected by Dunning and Jan Brown, the helpline’s founder, and Rosenthal had written custom software for recording the data, researcher Denise Hines, then of the Univ. of New Hampshire Family Research Laboratory, did statistical analysis and collaborated
with Dunning on authoring the paper.

“My cynical view is that there will be DV reform when the police, lawyers, judges, counselors, advocates, politicians, get a taste of what Judge Weller got from Darren Mack.”

I keep hoping that is not true, but our government’s commanding officer, General Public, is as derelict in its duty to pay attention to what is going on and deal with it as the female general we put in charge of Abu Ghraib Prison in Iraq.

I am still skeptical of the proposition that Darren was able to put the sniper hit on Judge Weller and get away clean two hours after putting the knife to his wife.

It is not like he is the only person with a motive!

Jay Are, Thanks for sharing your experience at work. From my experience and what I’ve heard from others at work I expected that most police focus on arresting men.

In my men’s group at church, a police officer in advertantly shares that he lets woman go after he sees them break the law, while he arrests men.

I speak for all of us when I say your comments are welcome here.

Thanks for the heads-up, Gonz. Not that one couldn’t smell that particular rat for what she is….. but it’s always nice to get confirmation.

After demonstrating her apparent brain-damage by attempting to place blame on Men’s Rights Activists for the turd-pile called VAWA, “dabir dalton” has apparently re-inserted her head where the sun doesn’t shine once again……..

And Denis, thanks for clarifying and summarizing some of the fundamentals about feminists’ infiltration and destruction of men’s constitutional rights in America.

“jay.. the police sargeant… its good to know that the police are not just a middle class white women worship Kult, and are there to protect the equal justice clause of the constitution…”

I would encourage those who have not done so already to go to:
(And that goes for Police Sargeant Jay as well.)

    From “Justice Denied-DV-Arrest Policies”
(I recommend you all download and read this file):

“In both the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, the government is commanded to not deprive any person of liberty “without due process of law.” Arresting a person for allegedly committing domestic violence has a profound impact on personal liberty–men who are arrested for domestic violence are detained an average of nine days.

“Arrest has serious legal and social effects as well. For that reason, police officers traditionally were not allowed to make an arrest for a misdemeanor—most instances of domestic violence are legally classified as misdemeanors—unless the officer actually witnessed the event or had an arrest warrant from a judge. That policy, a hallmark of a civil and just society, served to protect lawabiding citizens from arbitrary and unfair arrest.”

“But over the past two decades, states have enacted domestic violence laws that increasingly departed from these time-honored protections. This Special Report documents how arrest policies driven by the Violence Against Women Act violate fundamental notions of due process and equal protection under the law.”

“Over the last 20 years the criteria for arrest have experienced a complete turn-around. They have evolved from warrant-required arrest to warrantless arrest, then to mandatory arrest, next to arrest only of the primary aggressor, and more recently back to pro-arrest.”

Equal Protection Under the Law for Men no longer exists in the area of DV as well as in many other areas of life today.

Download: “Expanding Definitions, Vanishing Rule of Law”

“In 1780, John Adams of Massachusetts advanced the notion that the fledgling American democracy should be a “government of laws and not of men.” Indeed, rule of law is considered to be a prerequisite to democracy because it promotes fairness and justice.”

“Rule of law rests on the notion that legal offenses should be defined by concrete actions and verifiable harms, and are amenable to subsequent legal verification or refutation.”

“Beginning in the 1980s, feminist lawyers set out to reverse centuries of legal tradition. Attorney Martha Chamallas advocated that equal protection under the law should be phased out in favor of “an asymmetrical approach that adopts the perspective of the less powerful group with the specific goal of equitable power sharing among diverse groups.”

“Since civil law is less constrained by constitutional protections than criminal law, feminists found it to be a useful arena in which to advance their agenda. And a law that is defined by fear and emotional distress is inherently biased for three reasons:”

“1. Men are less likely to admit their fear of becoming a crime victim, even though young men suffer the majority of criminal victimization.”

“2. Even when men are genuinely fearful of harm from their partner, they are less likely to be believed by a judge.”

“3. If a woman claims to be fearful, it is almost impossible for the man to refute the allegation, since fear is not subject to legal verification.”

“An allegation that cannot be refuted becomes a clear invitation to abuse.”

There is an ever widening circle of persons in the definition of “domestic” violence. e.g., “any other person with a sufficient relationship “. The person claiming DV does not even have to live with the defendent…only to have and/or had a prior “sufficient relationship”.

The definition of “violence” in domestic violence is also going through an ever widening circle of what constitutes violence. “fear”, “reasonable apprehension” (and who decides what is reasonable with what is utterly unreasonable?), “extreme emotional distress” (again what is extreme?),…and so on. These words ENDORSE THE IMPORTANCE of the purported victim’s SUBJECTIVE PERCEPTION, regardless of the alleged actions of the defendent.

In DV cases evidence is not required by the purported victim, only her word, and evidence provided by the defendent can and in most cases is summarily dismissed or ignored outright.

Guys, it is important to understand that we are in the midst of gender tyranny-a gender war. For a long time now.

My cynical view is that there will be DV reform when the police, lawyers, judges, counselors, advocates, politicians, get a taste of what Judge Weller got from Darren Mack.

The first efforts ought to be directed at working through the system-the “democratic process”. But what can we say about the democratic process when a Senior Senator in the U.S. Congress, Senator Joseph Biden, refuses to hear half the people, and in fact, deliberately shuts them out?

In the Nazi Germany era under Hitller, and during Stalin’s reign in the Soviet Union there were things called “show trials”. These trials were meant to provide a facade of “justice” being administered. It was only a show. The court decision was made prior to the defendent showing up in court. No justice was administered. Sounds a lot like today’s Family Court. Men have no say. They are branded before they walk into court.

Laws like the VAWA which has spawned 1500 domestic violence laws (30 on average per state), courts like our Stalinist Family Courts with judges like Judge Weller, and Senior Senators like Joseph Biden, all enforcing gender tyranny and this gender war, make it nearly impossible for the democratic process to work.

These should be on trial for attempted murder and not Darren Mack.

When the government gives a man injustice and does not provide for him a fair and just system to address the injustice, and the government does this on a large scale, it is creating the conditions for violent revolution.

I would like to think that if a man went to a police station that he would be listened to. Unfortunately in most cases the likely result is that HE will be charged and arrested and put in jail (and detained on average for 9 days).

We are in a gender war.

“When VAWA was passed it did so in a congress that had a Conservative Republican majority…Sad to day but the Men Rights Activists who voted for the Republicans brought this situation down on top of their own heads…”

Dabir Dalton, focus please. VAWA passed by unanimous vote…. meaning that Republicans, Democrats, as well as independents in Congress sold men down the river.

To blame one single party for VAWA’s passing Congress is amusingly naive, to say the least.

The feminazis behind VAWA simply used a scumbag like Biden to sponsor the bill, but NOBODY voted against it.

First and foremost, I blame the feminazis.

Secondly, I blame the vermin in Congress who sold out America’s men for the feminazis’ blessing (or freedom from their political blackmail).

To blame “Mens Rights Activists” for VAWA shows that you are apparently living with your head rammed so far up your own rectum that you managed to kill off your grey cells through suffocation.

That scumbag Biden, and every single member of Congress who passed VAWA in spite of its inherent misandry deserve to be voted out of office!, says Forthwire.

Yes, and a lot more. Vote out for incompetence; boot out for malfeasance; drag out and vent fury upon for the deliberate damage to half the population. Voting aginst these viscious carpetbaggers will not send the right message to the hordes that follow. They should be prosecuted, be made to recant, be thoroughly punished, ruined, reputations destroyed, jailed, material assets taken, thrown on the street, heads stuck on a pike in main street.

When VAWA was passed it did so in a congress that had a Conservative Republican majority…Sad to day but the Men Rights Activists who voted for the Republicans brought this situation down on top of their own heads… says Dabir Dalton.

Yes, we men have stood by and let these parasites take over. Yes we have to shoulder some of the responsibility, just as a house owner has to take some responsibility for leaving his doors open for thieves to walk in. But that does not exonerate the thieves. One does not prosecute the house owner. And do you really think it is an issue of one political party? Republicanism? Why pick on them when the Clintons and the Carters were the main feeders? Are you being a f*ckwit? Take a day off.

As a Police Sergeant, I see this sort of thing on almost a daily basis. More and more men are coming forward to report that they have been assaulted by their wives or girlfriends.

It used to be that a man would be embarrassed to report the abuse but that is changing do to somepart at least, the situation being made more aware. My men and I have arrested several females for Domestic Assault and Battery on their male spouses or significant others. And the females are quite shocked many times when it is them who are being led into a cell with handcuffs on.

Our policy is if there is probable cause that Domestic Assault and Battery took place, then the purpetrator is arrested and charged regardless of their gender.

Believe me when I tell you some of the most violent and vicious Domestic Violence attacks I’ve investigated have been made by women.

That single paragraph characterizes America’s neglect of men’s issues, America’s institutionalized misandry, and why marriage has become such a risk to American men.

Abusive wives have carte blanche to terrorize their husbands BECAUSE THE LAW DOES NOT EVEN ALLOW THEM TO BE IDENTIFIED AS AN ABUSIVE SPOUSE.

Simply because they were born with a vagina, instead of a penis…….

How many BILLIONS of $$$$$ are spent every year on VAWA, part of which is used simply to fund a war on men and families, instead of actually helping female DV victims…………. yet male DV victims cannot be offered ANY help?

That scumbag Biden, and every single member of Congress who passed VAWA in spite of its inherent misandry deserve to be voted out of office!

All the while, feminazi vermin will continue to try to pass along the myth that women can only be victims….. even while some of them attempt to kill their husbands with knives.

I’m reading the study now. It is a riveting read. I’ve gotten about 1/3 of the way through it and I am now so wound up that I have to take a break from reading it. I can’t express how exasperated I feel, how angry that this could happen, and how the abused men are blamed for their plight.

Here’s a quote (from MANY interspersed within the study) that really ticked me off:

“She stabbed me with a knife, and I didn’t even defend myself, and after I got out of the hospital two weeks later, the court tells me to go to a group they say is for victims. It turns out to be for batterers, and I am expected to admit to being an abuser, and talk about what I did to deserve getting stabbed.

Other quotes also got my attention:

“She calls my mother and father and threatens to take me out.

“I started the car and she stood behind the car with the baby . . . Then she put the baby on the ground behind the car where I couldn’t see her, so I wouldn’t leave.”

I highly recommend everyone download this study and read it — really read it. It is highly moving. Also, for greater depth and to provide more scholarly weight beyond this study, visit DVstats.com.

People who want to do something to stop this injustice — women getting away with unilateral domestic violence by being perceived as victims — should start donating their time and money to groups like that which provided the data for the study, the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men.
