Diagnosis Amnesia: Treatment Required For Democrat Memory Loss Over U.S. Attorney Firings

By Doug Powers

It’s been said that the herbal supplement ginkgo biloba can help ease the ravages of memory loss and other cognitive disorders. I’m thinking about planning a fundraiser so as to have the means to purchase a hundred truckloads of ginkgo biloba in powder form, and sending it to Washington, DC, where it will be sprinkled on all the food, drink, and, most importantly money, in the city. Why?

Attorney General Gonzalez fired eight U.S. Attorneys this week. The Democrat freak-out was immediate, loud and annoying — I mean, worse than usual. Now some Republicans are now getting on board in calling for Gonzalez’s firing.

Democrats and some Republicans are saying that the firings were politically motivated. In Washington, DC? Gee, do ya think so? Pointing out that anything that happens in Washington, DC is “politically motivated” is like saying that the crowd in an Old Country Buffet is “hunger motivated” — it’s redundant and as obvious as Valerie Plame’s undercover status.

Judging from the reaction of politicians and the mainstream media, you’d think this was the worst thing to happen in Washington since — well, the previous thing.

Outside the Beltway, Alan Dershowitz thinks Gonzalez’s firings, all approved by the President, sets a horrible and scary precedent:

The very idea that the Bush White House would have seriously considered sacking every single United States attorney and replacing them with political cronies and partisan hacks who could be counted on to go after Democrats and spare Republicans is frightening.

What did we hear from Democrats when Bill Clinton had Janet “why’s that guy going into the women’s restroom?” Reno fire all U.S. Attorneys — all 93 of them? We heard nothing except the sound of crickets and ice rattling in Ted Kennedy’s Chivas tumbler. It wasn’t a big deal back then, but Democrats don’t seem to remember. Such memory loss is tragic and all too common in Washington.

It would appear that the difference between “aw gee, that’s just how politics is played” and a “constitutional crisis” depends on the political party of the protagonist. Moreover, those who participate in this perpetuation are usually the very people claiming to be appalled that whatever it is they’re demagoging happened for “partisan political reasons.” If Washington, DC is good for only one thing, it’s a laugh.

As for Dershowitz, he conveniently can’t seem to recall an event in the early 90’s that was more severe tenfold, but I’ll bet he can rattle off the names and phone numbers of clients who stiffed him on legal bills.

For those specific instances of selective memory loss syndrome, this is where the ginkgo biloba comes in.

In addition to the ginkgo, we’ll put some Fosamax on the truck to help with Alberto Gonzalez’s loss of backbone. Gonzalez put on the wool coat gifted him by Democrats and marched right into the sheep slaughterhouse when he apologized to all U.S. Attorneys. The apology went to all attorneys, presumably with the exception of the eight he fired, who were most likely already sitting at a bar next to a double vodka tonic and a cardboard box full of pictures, thumbtacks, legal pads, pencils and a swiped stapler.

Democrats are right. Gonzalez should go, but not for the reasons Democrats say he should go. Gonzalez should resign or be fired because he took the bait without batting an eye. Every time a non-Democrat gets up in the morning it’s a “scandal,” but to apologize for a relative non-issue requires a sucker who should be wearing a Tootsie-Pop wrapper instead of a suit.

At any rate, amnesia treatment is quickly needed so we can look back at the Clinton Administration and remember that this is, especially by comparison, not that big a deal.

If Hillary is elected president I’ll be looking for medicine that causes memory loss. And if anybody thinks that there will be a single current U.S. Attorney left standing after that day, I’ve got some Castle Grande property to sell them.

I remember the Clinton years quite well when Con. Repub.’s were all over the Clinton’s back like fleas and ticks from a rabid dog…Nor did they leave any stone unturned in their attempts to hound the Clinton admin. out of office and of course Clinton himself gave them plenty of ammunition…

Turn about is fair play…Just be patient Doug as your turn to play the flea and or tick off the back of a rabid hound will come around once again after a Lib. Dem. has been elected president in the next election…

Not that you, will, halo, sguiggy and others ever really stopped playing…But then, I suspose, ya’ll are just sharpening ya’lls claws in gleeful anticipation of that event aren’t you…

If the United States had a genuine free press then those in the media would hold the Demicrates to account and ask them:

“If it’s a constitutional crisis for the Republican executive to sack 8 U.S.
attorneys why was it not a constitional crisis for the Democrat executive to sack 93 US attiorneys in 1992?”

When you hear the “main-stream” media in the US opennly and repeatedly asking questions like this you will know that the United States of America
    actually has a FREE PRESS!!

    Dabir Dalton Says:

If nothing was said about Janet Reno firing all 93 US attorneys at the time she did so; then that means that the Repub. chose to remain silent at that time thereby forfeiting the right to use that event in this debate…

Also if they were fired at the beginning of the Clinton Admin. then that would have been expected just as Liar Liar Pants on Fire Bush had the absolute right to do so at the beginning of his Admin…However this was no changing of the guard and these firings were done simply because these 8 JA’s failed to take seriously their expected role of attack dogs aimed at the Dem.s in order to both bring them to heel as well as keep them in their place on the sidelines…And/or actually performed their job by upholding the law and not playing favorites by going after Repub.’s guilty of corruption…

Therefore I must conclude that had Clinton instructed Reno to turn his JA’s on the Repub.’s during his admin. just as Liar Liar Pants on Fire Bush did to the Dem.’s we would still be hearing the echos of their howals of protest today…

A Con. Repub. is an individual who self righteously thinks that he/she has the right to impose their own brand of morality on everybody else; even as they secretly indulge in the very same immorallity they despise and accuse the lib. dem.’s of committing…

    Patriot Says:

DABIR DALTON states the usual liberal argument: “We got away with it, so you can’t condemn us for it.” Then he uses the liberal tactic of calling people names based on vague statements or beliefs.

Politicians from both parties make mistakes and do bad things. Conservatives are chastised and forced to resign or go to jail. Liberals do equally bad things and they are applauded for “being strong in difficult times” or “admitting they made a mistake and moving on”. Liberals are rarely ever punished. I could give examples, but we are all well aware of them.

    Dabir Dalton Says:

Once again another Con. Repub. engages in quite unoriginal thinking as well as engaging his mouth without putting his brain in gear…The idea that one who chooses to disagree with a Con. Repub. must be a liberal is at best boring and not only absurd but predictible and oh so very feminine…

But then what else would one expect from a mindless Bush Bot…Original thinking nope I think not…

    Patriot Says:

Amazing that someone can write so much so many times and still not say a damn thing.

    1. You err as you accuse me by ASSuming I support Bush. I don’t. He is forsaking this country for the good of Mexico. He has not defended our borders and he is only where he is because of who his father was. So I guess you are the feminine one.

    2. If you would like to factually disagree please convince me that there is not a double standard between how the misbehavior of conservatives and liberals is handled and reported.

    3. And you most certainly are a liberal. The first response of every liberal is that the only reason somebody wouldn’t disagree with them is because they are stupid. That self-defense mechanism helps liberals LIKE YOU protect their egos from the real world.

Now go get me a sandwich!

    Joyanna Adams Says:

GREAT piece Doug! I think it’s one of my favorites! This one goes into the “The Powers That Be” decribes down to the last detail “the powers that be!”

The first power wins, the other powers lose.

Oh, and I’ll take a sandwich too!

  8. 8
    Dabir Dalton Says:

Patriot get your own sandwich…Joyanna go back to kitchen where ya belong…

Oh yes Patriot you are indeed a feminine con repub puppet all right and your masters are none other than Liar Lair Pants On Fire Bush and Karl Rove…Oh my how con. repub’s like yourself love to call the kettle black when ya talk about double standards…

Now stop whinning like a female because your puppet masters got caught with their hands in the cookie jar but found a mouse trap instead and take your lumps like a real man…

The Dims, as I recall, had little or nothing to say at that time either. By Dabir Dalton’s reasoning, perhaps they should also STFU now .

    amfortas Says:

Hey, come on Dabir Dolton, at least make it funny or clever. You just sound silly.

  11. 11
    Dabir Dalton Says:

Nasty just as the con. repub’s attempted to impeach clinton for lying under oath as well as attacked him for his moral lapses the repub.’s are now suffering the very same fate as what goes around sooner or later comes back around to bite one in the a**

Amfortas I never write to please anyone else but myself and instead of repeating the self deceptive lies that others want to hear I only say what needs to be heard…Just like liberalism conservativism is just another form of matriarchal thinking that the sooner MRA’s ween themselves from the sooner the men’s movement can begin to move forward…

  12. 12
    conservativation Says:

Dabir, I sympathize w/ complaints about the prosecution of Clinton, that does not mean I was or am a fan of the first black President, or that I think him innocent, I just grew into some perspective after a few years. I get tired of both sides being intellectually dishonest and bantering back and forth with childish claims that “your guy did this so my guy is ok” etc. Its boring……
But in this case dabir, other than maybe a bumbling handling, there is no law broken, and even if politically motivated, bad form maybe, but this is a silly matter. The left had more traction on Libby, and that was mighty then, lying in an investigation of a crime that never happened, and about a proven liar. If you are honest, while condemning the handling of Clinton, you’d apply the same rational to this, and then I for one can respect your intellectual honesty. Less, from either side, is absurd and unproductive.

Dabir Dalton, being a femocrat is bad enough, but don’t you think it’s pushing it to be a troll, too?

Please stop trying to sound Southern. We’ve finally gotten past the ignorant image of Billy Carter and you’re trying to bring it back on us.
