Tsvangirai arrested yet again!
Whilst Mugabe flew off to join his brother leaders of SADC, drama hit the streets of Harare today during the busy hours. Police armed to the teeth cordoned off a large section surrounding the MDC headquarters at Harvest House. Observers say that the area was sealed off preventing any traffic entering the area and anyone leaving. The police used tear gas, believed to have been supplied by the Isrealies, to keep the public away.
In true Hollywood fashion, the police stormed Harvest House and arrested Morgan Tsvangirai and twenty of his staff. Only a few weeks ago, Tsvangirai was severely assaulted by police whilst in custardy. This resulted in serious injury, including a deep 8 inch cut across the side of his head. Tsvangirai is still in recovery and there is growing concern for his safety and that of his staff.
Over the past week, there has been a concerted operation to assault MDC leaders across the country. It is understood that this is being co-ordinated from the Presidents office. It is believed that CIO, militia and re-employed war veterans are being used.
Only last night, Ian and Theresa Makone were abducted from their home by riot police. Their whereabouts is still unknown. Ian is an advisor to Morgan Tsvangirai and Theresa is the Chairperson for MDC Mashonaland East. This typifies what’s going on across the wider spectrum of Zimbabwe. People are going missing, usually severely beaten and/or being taken away and dumped in the middle of the bush.
Today’s arrests are viewed as Mugabe cocking a snook at SADC. No doubt there will strong words said to Mugabe behind closed doors and the communique will be another great opportunity to blame the West for Zimbabwe’s woes. Ordinary Zimbabweans have lost any faith they ever had in SADC and Thabo Mbeki has become a swear word in the streets, hills and valleys across Zimbabwe.
