Moms Entitled to Flex-Time?

2007-05-16
By

On Friday, May 11, 2007, on FNC’s Your World with Neil Cavuto, I debated my regular “nemesis,” Lis Wiehl, about whether working mothers are “entitled” to flex-time. Watch the videoclip, which ends with viewer mail from Thailand.

    Hi marc,

I look forward to your next performance. Gender issues being complicated, having moved on, for the feminist orthodoxy, away from debates about ‘equality’, there nevertheless was an appropriate chance for you to stress the reverse, from a male perspective (something you do so uniquely well), for a non-specialist audience who can still benefit from the revelation of hearing words like equality and men, in the same sentence. You sound like you do not want to entertain notions of ‘men’s rights’ as it might sound too much like entitlement talk, which sounds a bit socialist. The phrase ‘men’s rights’ has a startling affect on peoples consciousness however, people repeating it back ‘MEN’S rights?’ – confused for a moment. Some masculinities books recommend the phrase not be used, as it causes too much retaliation, however it certainly provides notoriety. Perhaps you could adapt a similarly effective phrase for your media appearance. I notice neither you, Glen of Warren use the phrase to describe yourselves, when there is a whole ‘men’s rights’ online community , the bedrock of your support presumably, whose logic you prescribe. At university, there are people I don’t know, who know me as the Men’s Rights guy, having mentioned it only in passing in seminars. It sticks in the mind, and people like to be scandalised, then learn more. Your profile is doing just fine without some such phrase, I would just like to see you take it to the next level.

I’m not surprised Marc was called a male chauvinist pig. That is the tactic of feminist to shame and silence threats with terms such as sexist, chauvinist, etc. If that doesn’t work then comes the lace curtain. Debate ISN’T what the feminists want.

Even Christina Hoff Sommers experienced the “lace curtain,” when she dared speak out against feminism.

Connie Chung’s “Eye to Eye” program recently did a special about my research. Bernard Goldberg, the correspondent who interviewed me, invited Gloria Steinem, Susan Faludi, and others to appear in the segment, but they refused.

At the last minute the feminist establishment coordinated a massive protest. Faxes and phone calls came pouring in. Steinem herself called Connie Chung, warning her I was a dangerous woman who should not be granted a forum. Bernard Goldberg, a veteran of many controversial interviews, told me that he had never witnessed anything like it.

Great job on a hard topic!

Calm, cool, collected. Great poise and demeanor!

Marc, a pity you are unable to see Lis Wiehl in real time while you are offering your side of the debate. Her apoplectic facial distortions are priceless.

Not only are your appearances on FOX highly productive, they are also just plain great fun to watch.

    Tom of covent garden,

As you correctly perceived, I stated upfront that I have no problem with flex-time, if it is: available to all employees, gender-neutral, negotiated, and comcomitant with flex-pay. That’s pretty simple and straightforward.

I have 3.5 to 4.5 minutes to debate two other people and must decide, on the fly, how much — or little — to say to be effective. I come prepared to say many things but never know exactly what the others will say. Sometimes, I decide my opening salvo three minutes before going on the air.

Also, understand that I am in a remote studio, in a dark room, facing the lens barrel of an impersonal camera. I cannot see myself, Neil, or Lis. All I have is an earpiece through which to hear what they’re saying; consequently, I cannot see either one’s body language or facial expressions. They, however, can see me. They have the advantage. That’s life in remote shoots; most people don’t realize that.

Also remember that my performances are generating huge ratings upswings at Fox News, and that is why Fox keeps inviting me back. With all due respect, my strategy is WORKING. Can you name any other man who is getting this kind of international TV coverage to counter feminism? I can’t.

As an example of the impact I’m having, Newshounds.us has labeled me a male chauvinist pig. Check out this videoclip.

Tomorrow (05.18.07), I will be back to debate Lis again. It is becoming a regular segment. This is damned good progress.

Another sure-footed performance by marc – he did well to reframe the debate somewhat, by stressing the need of flexibility for both sexes, though perhaps could have stressed the phrase ‘working fathers’, to make the case for greater emphasis on shared parenting responsibilities, if indeed marc thinks that a worthy cause. Maybe Fox wouldn’t let him talk about working fathers, or maybe marc did not think it de rigour at such a right-wing corporation, where all the men still wear ties, etc. Mixed messages, but I suppose marc has to start on their terms somewhat, to get his foot in the door – and well done for that.

Tune into Cavuto’s program on Friday (05.18.07): I’ll be back!

Well Marc. your have a sense of humour failure that needs a good mechanic.

I admire your work in this area so much that I spent four and a half hours downloading the video. (right after my post). You did great. It was a first class interview. Very skillful and many good points made. Keep up the good work and for goodness sake learn to take a little humourous critique from your supporters otherwise you just might show up men as dullards.

“Finally, I have perspective”, you say, ” on who you are and everything you write……You sound like an angry woman.”

Hmmmm. I guess the above comment shows that you have not met many angry women. Maybe due to your superior cocksmanship. Keep that up as well, old son.

    Ush,

Had you listened carefully to what I said to Cavuto & Wiehl, you would know that I already covered this point.

  • Ray Blumhorst

I shuffled the work load of flex time and AWS (alternate work schedule) employees for years. It was a royal pain in the… When the rest of the work force, including administration is on a 5 day, 40 hour week and you have employees on 4-10, or 4-9 plus a half, or some others whose schedules are even more unpredictable, it makes covering the work load very difficult.

Where’s so and so? “Oh, there not here, it’s their flex time off,” still echos in my nightmares.

And Weil’s idiotic comments about those women working harder who get flex time, yea like that’s really going to happen after the supervision goes home. The only way to stop the screwing off is to have specific assignments that can be verified for completeness for those times. In job areas like service, where there are more variables in the work load, it gets even harder to gauge.

The one thing I did experience that should have been brought up is Dad’s trying to use flex time to take care kids needs. Even in the most progressive of work places, the traditional role stereotypes of women as primary child care provider and men as primary bread winners, makes it very hard for men to get equitable flex time treatment for those needs.

Flex time makes a lot of work for other employees, who have to cover for a person who’s not there during primary work times, and it is women, not men, who overwhelmingly get the nod, the time off, for child care. Oh, but it’s okay as long as it’s men who are getting the inequitable treatment. They are traditionally expected to make the accommodations that suit women so let’s not rock the boat and get on somebody’s bad side. It could be bad for a man’s career. God knows a man needs a steady job to cover all his responsibilities, and provide a large share of that “80% of all money spent on consumer purchases by women.”

  • PolishKnight

I want to say that I appreciate the limits of what you have to deal with: You not only have to be quick on your feet for the sound bites, but also avoid the lace curtain closing in. Even ballsy Fox News has it’s limits.

But you’re helping to push those limits. Thank you.

  • David R. Usher

Marc, ps: credit for the quote appreciated.

  • David R. Usher

    Marc,

Great interview. Here’s a killer line to dump on Wiehl the next time around.

“Business and personal life are two separate spheres of life. Folks who do not want businesses to run their lives at home should not demand that we move the living room into the board room. Flex time should be an across-the-board decision for businesses to make — an employment arrangement available at flex-salary rates to anyone who chooses to work that way”

  • scottkirk

the fox producers maybe the only true news outlet left…..
the future will not look good for cnn, abc, nbc, ect when America starts to look at why men in 1920 died 1 year earlier and now die on average 10 years earlier..and finds out only 1 news station was responsible enough to its viewers to publish something that begins to question our cultural
    “group think”

  • Denis

“The Fox producers have told me that they get INUNDATED with mail every time I appear. I am making a difference and am proud to be doing so.”

Marc-fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Congratulations on your success and I wish you much much more in the future. Keep up your great work and thank you again.

  • http://thenononsenseman.mensnewsdaily.com Marc H. Rudov

    Joi,

On your point about the “lace curtain,” Warren Farrell is absolutely correct. That’s why I am fortunate to be on Fox News, which has brass balls and, consequently, does better than all the other cable networks put together. Moreover, Neil’s show is the #1 business show on all of television.

Notice that the viewer mail Cavuto chose to read was from a man, with a man’s point of view. Not only is it unlikely that another network would have put me on TV to denounce female entitlements, but, had it taken that risk, it definitely would have chosen to read a response letter from an angry mother — guaranteed.

The Fox producers have told me that they get INUNDATED with mail every time I appear. I am making a difference and am proud to be doing so.

  • Joi

I have to agree with Marc wholeheartedly. Let us all be supportive of Marc and what works best for him.

I hate to bring up the topic of the “Lace Curtain,” which Warren Farrell wrote about in “Women Can’t Hear What Men Don’t Say,” but there he spoke how the “powers that be” such as feminists and Gloria Steinem could simply call the producers and make shows he was invited to speak on not aired. They also had the power to have Mr. Farrell not invited to speak again for doing exactly what Rudov is doing.

So, don’t think Marc isn’t taking great risks to his own personal career. The “Lace Curtain” is a true fact and as he said few men have the courage to stand up to these women.

God Bless you Marc, keep doing what you are doing. Many of us are cheering you one and you give us all a light of hope.

  • http://thenononsenseman.mensnewsdaily.com Marc H. Rudov

    Gentlemen,

My segments are 3.5 to 4.5 minutes in length and, therefore, I cannot “work in” trivial talking points. I must keep my comments and retorts short, targeted, and pithy. So far, my formula is working, and I am gaining more and more exposure for executing it.

  • roger

    Great points Joi.
I hope Marc can work those in to the next “discussion”.

Keep up the good work Marc. You are doing an excellent job!

  • PolishKnight

    Hello Marc,

I enjoyed your last sparring match on this subject. I’ll view the new one when I get home (damn proxies!)

If I may make a suggestion, based upon Joi’s comments, consider reminding the pretty blonde that wealthy, “A list” guys with open wallets are getting more difficult to find. It’s a major gripe factor among the cute women such as her. Use the phrase “price herself out of the market” AND that men do have one biological advantage: They can afford to sit back and take their time to make a decision to have children.

Nearly all the men I know in my generation have started families in their mid-30′s to late 40′s and guess what: Most of the time it wasn’t with liberated gals with huge demands in the same age range. Hit ‘er (pardon the violent imagery) where it hurts. Foxnews just ran a panic piece teaser for their nightly news: “Do men have a biological clock too?” I looked into it: Studies showed that men’s fertility went down after 40 or so but it didn’t factor in lifestyle issues (guys smoking pot suddenly can’t have kids after 40. Duh.)

  • http://thenononsenseman.mensnewsdaily.com Marc H. Rudov

    Amfortas,

I always view with great suspicion any man who comments disparagingly about my looks or doesn’t have a broadband connection to the Internet. You meet both conditions. Finally, I have perspective on who you are and everything you write.

Even though you cannot view the videoclip, because you’re on a dialup connection, you still feel compelled to make a comment. You sound like an angry woman.

  • http://thenononsenseman.mensnewsdaily.com Marc H. Rudov

    Scottkirk,

You are correct: women don’t like eunuchs, just their money.

Thanx for referring your friends to my dating tips. Get them to sign up to receive their own! BTW, the tips are just a tease for what my books contain.

Fox News has told me that my appearances are boosting ratings and e-mail volume so much that they want more of them. In fact, I received an invitation to appear this coming Friday, in advance of choosing a topic!

  • scottkirk

    marc..my man…this is the best one yet…
you placated her..so they still love you on fox…
but also said what needed to be said……

also I’ve refered some men to youre dating tips…as when it all boils down…women don’t really like eunech type males

  • Joi

    Great job Marc.

You’re right and the masses will agree with you.

If a woman wants to have a child it is HER choice, and HER choice alone.
This is due to the FACT that men have NO REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS WHATSOEVER AND WOMEN ARE THE SOLE ARBITERS OF REPRODUCTION, and this has become a societal norm and dictate.

If a man doesn’t want to become a father, but is forced to due to the mothers decision to have the baby, wouldn’t the father be due an “entitlement?” Yes, the “entitlement” for the man is paying the mother child support.

If the man wants the mother to keep the child and the mother decides to abort, what entitlement is the man due then? Lack of reproductive rights I imagine?

  • amfortas

No BB I’m afraid, so I can’t view it. But a question.

Marc, the photo of a careworn, swarthy fellow alongside blond Lis. If that’s you, who is the chubby, pasty-faced young fella with the sunglasses that appears on the MND masthead along with your name?

If it is a ‘before and after’ getting under the clitoral hood and just whose was it for goodness sake to have that effect on your complexion?

    :)
