Among the major candidates for President of the United States in 2008 are an African-American, an Italian-American, a woman, and a Mormon. Isn’t this a great time to be alive?

Cool amfortas, get busy developing the durn furner platform, and when we debate its planks, lets be clear no durn furners need walk. And we’ll be all the better for it.
Problem is, Arnold BlackFarmer (isn’t that somehow close to his name translated) can run and terminate the whole dang thing.

    Menck said,

Sorry, Denise. But what do any of these external markers have to do with any person’s qualifications or ability to lead the country? None of these distinctions is substantive to the job of the presidency. They are nothing more than feel-good qualities when what we need is solid leadership.

(Denise) I’m not a big supporter of any of those candidates and may well not vote for any of them. I definitely don’t believe we should vote for someone because of a demographic group the person is in. What I think is wonderful is the fact that people from those groups have a serious shot at the presidency when many would have said that no one from them could be president.
Of course, in the not-so-distant past, many people thought America could never have a Roman Catholic president but Roman Catholic John F. Kennedy was elected.

That’s because she’s fallen into the same trap most people do. As it shows in how she’s wrote this little blurb, she doesn’t see these individuals as anything other than a black man, an Italian-American, a woman, and a Mormon. Just like a great deal of the people out there.

And it is for this exact reason we will get the President we deserve. Instead of presenting a case point on how this person’s record proves their merit or how that person’s ideas and dreams might benefit the American people, it all comes down to race, religion, and human biology. As it is, if I were to vote for a Democrat it would be Obama if only to keep Hilary out of the chair. If I were to vote for a Republican I would vote for Romney, he isn’t all that bad. But if I was old enough to be elected to office I’d write my own damn name in the box.
