On Thursday morning, June 7 2007, Good Morning America will air a special on military parents who have been losing custody of their kids simply due to their military deployments. There is action in Congress to address this issue, which is a major accomplishment.
Per Michael Robinson of the California Alliance for Families and Children:
Dear All:
I was just notified by the producer for ABC News Law & Justice Unit that they will be airing the military child custody piece tonight, on the World Nightly News with Charles Gibson. The airing time is 6:30 PM.
Also Rep. Maxine Waters is working feverishly to get additional legislation moving to cover the Jurisdictional and child support problems. The amendment by Rep. Mike Turner only addressed the current custody orders issue: http://www.cafcusa.org/military_parents.aspx
Maxine’s Chief of Staff, Mikael, called me immediately after learning about the ABC piece being aired tonight. I have been working with her office for several weeks now on the additional legislation that is needed.
ABC has a lot of tape in the can, and does plan on doing a follow up on the issues in a Special down the road.

Dear All:
I just received this from the producer for ABC news:
There’s been a slight change — our piece on military service members facing difficult custody issues is now set to run on Good Morning America tomorrow, rather than on World News Tonight.
Thanks again!
Be sure to watch the show Thursday morning. This is a chance for some major positive coverage on how military parents have been penalized for serving their country, by having been denied legal custody and visitation of their kids. The moves in Congress to rectify this are both positive and encouraging.
It bears mentioning that Michael Robinson has been the chief promoter of this legislation in the movement to help protect children’s relationships with both parents (when a parent’s fitness is not an issue). Robinson is the Executive Director for the California Alliance for Families and Children. Although his organization focuses on California legislation, it is obvious that Robinson’s reach now extends throughout the United States. The airing of this television program is a direct result of Robinson’s efforts, and he deserves our appreciation and financial support.
If the California Alliance for Families and Children (CAFC) have been able to get results like this, I think it’s time we pile on the contributions. I ask all readers of Mens News Daily, bloggers, activists, and anyone who cares about the right of children to have substantial time with both of their parents, please make a recurring monthly donation to the CAFC right now:
http://www.cafcusa.org/contribution.aspx
An organization with political credibility is exactly what we need, and right now they are delivering some powerful results. It’s time to pony up, people! The laws will not change simply because we’re criticizing them. We cannot blog our way out of this. We need to be supporting WINNERS, and Michael Robinson and the CAFC fit that description to a tee.
Let your donation be recurring, even if it’s only $20. I personally donate $100 a month, and it’s money well-spent for an organization which has gotten major results, the only one of its kind in the nation with such consistent results for all Americans.
