There was an interesting response to my Houston Chronicle column Texas Frozen Embryo Case–In Defense of a Man’s Right to Choose (6/14/07) posted in the Chronicle forum. A man identified as “Yankee Texan” wrote:
“At 7 years old, my mother and father divorced based on a decision made by my mother. For the next 13 years of my life, my mother fed me horror stories about my father involving physical abuse of the whole family, causing ‘broken ribs.’ÂÂ
“We moved to Texas when I was 13, against a court order to do so. She technically kidnapped me. She moved to Texas because they could ‘protect her’ from my father. She then continued to bleed as much child support out of my father as she could, while feeding me lies about him…ÂÂ
“It wasn’t until I was 20 years old that I began to ‘step back’ and put pieces of the puzzle together. I am now 27 years old, I have the complete story from both my mother and my father. My mother not only lied to me for over 13 years of my life about my father, [she]kidnapped me, and stole a large portion of my life that I could have been spending with one of the most honorable, respectable and caring man I know…my father.”
