NBC News: We’re Not Paying Paris Hilton 1 Million For Interview
If you were a producer desperate for a great interview, who would you offer a million dollars to appear on one of your network’s news programs?
Perhaps you would seek Thomas L. Friedman to wax eloquent about geopolitics, Christopher Hitchens to debunk religion, Sen. Ted Kennedy to champion immigration reform or Colin Powell to discuss the Iraq war.
Unfortunately, you and I are not in charge of the network news programs. Friedman, Hitchens and Powell may appeal to intellectuals, but the great unwashed prefers to hear from the likes of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. Is there any discernable difference between Katie Couric’s news program and “Entertainment Tonight”?
From Reuters:
“NBC News on Thursday denied a report that it was preparing a bid of $1 million for a “Today” interview with heiress Paris Hilton after she’s released from jail.
Word spread like wildfire Thursday after a New York Post report said that NBC had outbid ABC News for an exclusive sit-down with Hilton, whose jail term has been the subject of breathless cable and some broadcast coverage in the past month.”
‘NBC News has not and will not pay for interviews,’ spokeswoman Allison Gollust said.”
I hope no news program will pay Paris Hilton for an interview, the witless bimbo shouldn’t benefit from committing a crime. Drunk Driving is a serious crime that often results in the death or injury of innocent persons.
Paris Hilton will be released after a few days in jail; what possible insights does she have to offer? “It’s like so boring to be in jail. I’ve really learned to appreciate my hairdresser, masseuse and manicurist. I will never take these little people for granted anymore.”
Martin Luther King used his time behind bars to pen “Letters from the Birmingham Jail”. I can imagine would a letter from Paris to her Mommy would be like: Mommy, life is so unfair, my civil rights are being violated, they won’t let me use any makeup…
If Paris Hilton truly had a life-changing experience in jail, when she’s released she will shut up and avoid the spotlight.
